Hello again. I'm the nut who started that topic regarding self treatingf with Glucophage. That was last November. I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes this past July by a new endo after showing him my fasting glucometer readings in the morning since late last year, they were never under 126 (130, 152, 142, 170, 178 just to name several) I was also given a diagnosis of Diabetic Neuropathy because i had been suffering with painful feet with some numbness and all over body pain with tingling sensations. I was put on Glucophage (Metformin) 2000mg, Glyburide 5mg, Neurontin 300mg but now 1800mg because the low dose wasnt helping, and Januvia 100mg. I also take Armour Thyroid because i have Hashimoto's Disease.
I learned over the past year that Hashimoto's and Diabetes are directly linked...aint that special?:)
When i posted that topic i was called crazy, i was also told to go to medical school to become a dr. No thanks, i'm happy being a nurse.
Not meaning to "rattle anyone's cage" but can i say i have the last laugh? Just joking, really! God bless you all!

Hi. I remember your post. I don't remember thinking you were nuts, though. What I recall is that most of us told you that the drug you wanted to take was prescription only and that you needed to see a doctor.
I'm glad that you now seem to have a doc that has your best interests at heart. That's great.
Have you tried any supplements for neuropathy? Both ALA (alpha lipoic acid) and GLA (gamma linolenic acid) are know to help with peripheral neuropathy. Do a medline search (called pubmed on the internet and it's free) on these two supplements and diabetes and you will get a lot of articles.
Best of luck to you.

Hey I am a nurse too......;)
There is a direct link to thyroid and any metabolic disorder..........they are linked......... Hashimoto's causes so much havoc.......everyday they are learning more and more about it...........also you can have negative antibodies and still have it !!! I just learned that myself........
I hope you get feeling better...........I am on Armour for hypo, Metformin for IR and Monopril for BP.......it is all connected........... but I am feeling better!!!
You should pat yourself on the back for having an accurate gut feeling

Hi everybody
I am not a nurse, but I am glad you were right. I have Type 2 Diabetes. Doesn't that feel good when you are right.
Keep seeing your doc though to follow up. Keep us updated.

I also have Hashimoto disease (Dx Oct /06) and T2 (Dx Feb/07). I was told that GERD (acid reflux) was linked to this too, which I also have (Dx Sept/01). I guess I just have the high blood pressure to look forward to now. So far I haven't had any problems in that department, but I'll be sure to watch it carefully.
What else can go wrong ???????
