My Mom is diabetic. She gave herself her insulin injection last nite before going to bed. She woke up in the middle of the nite crashing. BS was 60 something. She later noticed her injection site was swollen and black and blue, swollen to the size of a golf ball and just as hard. Do you think her insulin had just settled under her skin and that is why she woke up crashing? Has this happened to anyone else? If so how did you treat the injection site to reduce the swelling? Any suggestions or feedback would be helpful. Thanks:confused:

Hello I just went through this a few months back. I didn't think anything of it I just thougt I had injected the needle wrong and it bruised but after a few days it started to bother me and get bigger. I had called and made an appointment with my doctor and as I was driving there the area had burst and started draining a nasty fluid well I didn't do much for it as I was already on my way to the drs. When I got there and lifted my shirt due to it being on my belly my doctor looked at me wide eyed and says "you need to get to the hospital. What had happened is the insulin didn't completely get into the inner layers of skin and seeped back out the small opening the needle made and because I did nothing it started to get infected due to dirt, germs, etc. I am not sure if this is the exact thing that happened to your mom but I would make her an appt ASAP that way it doesn't get worse like I did which landed me 3 days in the hospital on an I.V of antibiotics. Does your mom take her shot in the stomach? Because that is where I took mine and my doctor informed me to no longer due but instead take them in the arm, althought just a few months earlier I was told by my endo to not take in the arms or legs but in the belly??? I have been told the stomach is thicker therefore harder to insert and can cause the needle to bend before it enters in and can cause infection. I would try to get her looked at before to long. I hope this helps and she gets better. :)
