Hi,
About 3 days ago my Dr. took me off Xanax (she doesn't like it) and put me on Klonopin. I use it because I get anxious when I try to sleep. Anyways, I've noticed a few times since I started the drug that my heartbeat is irregular. Prior to taking the drug I got the "missed heartbeat" but now my pulse is completely off. Is this something that I should worry about? Since it seems the Klonopin caused it should I not worry?
I'd really appreciate help. If you've felt similar symptoms on Klonopin let me know. I don't know if I should get it checked out in the ER because I don't know how bad this is.
Thanks.

How much are you taking? When was the last Xanax you took before you took the klonopin?
I have never run into this before.

just .25mg before bed. I started the Klonopin the night after I stopped Xanax, which was also .25mg. Thanks for any help.

I have a 24 hr heart monitor and was able to record the irregularities. When I called to send them in I talked to the woman and she said that she doesn't think I should be worried because it can anything from anxiety to strange breathing patterns. It's hard not to worry about though, I'll probably call the doctor tomorrow.
Anyone else know what's going on?

I very well could be anxiety due to the change in medication. you seemed quite comfortable with xanax.
Klonopin is a good medication in my opinion. It lasts longer in your system.
I take it now as needed. I used to take it every day.

I heard that klonapin can effect your heart if you stop taking it suddenly. so you have to wean off it gradually. otherwise you don't wnat to wind up having a heart attack or having the rythme of the heart become effected.
Klonapin works great for me. I do get heart palpiations too on and off. when I was suffering with general anxiety it used to happen all the time, but now I'm taking zoloft for it and I dont' suffer as bad.
when I have my estrogen patches on too long and there's not much estrogen flowing thru my body, that's when I notice the palpiations are more frequent.
drinking too much caffeine can cause palpitations , lack of estrogen will cause them too. how old are you if I'm not being rude? the closer you get to menopause, which pre menopause can happen anywhere 10 yrs before you finally hit menopause.
I would warn you too about the klonapin. it is very addictive. not mentally but physically, so when you finally have to come off the klonapin, there can be addiction to them. I wasn't warned of this before I got on mine.
my phsychiatrist said they're habit forming but I thought she meant mentally.
now I have to go thru withdrawl when I decide I don't want to take it anymore. I too take only one per night but when I do miss it, I start to get achey in my spine and very irritable.
isn't it an opiate?
I would trust what the nurse says about the results of your holter monitor.
but, if you continue getting them and you dont' feel comfortable, why don't you request a stress test just to be sure?
good luck,
Linda

Thanks again for the help.
I'm at 21 year old male. I've been taking .25mg at night for 5 nights now. I'm going to call my doctor today to see if it's a problem.

glad to hear you're going to follow up.
I do love my klonapin and am worried when the day comes to have to stop it. I just have to listen to the dr and go real slow when coming off of it so I dont' get any detox symtoms.
it was initially prescribed for me for my GAD. they usually RX benzo's for this conditon.
I am supposed to take it 2x's a day but the only time I took it before work, I paid a dear price for it. It was so hard to keep my eyes open and I looked drugged up. my coworker told me not to take it at work.
so now I do what you do. just one at bed time and the wonderful thing about this medicine, is that there are no lingering effects or drowsiness from it the next day.
I hope this medicine is not what's giving you problems and hope that all works out well for you.
best wishes,
linda
