Firstly let me thank you for taking the time to reply.

The doctor did do a strep test but wasnt sure if he could or couldnt just make out the blue line on the stick so he figured i had a very light strep infection, though the antibiotics havent done anything as of yet.

Doesnt mono make you very tired? Ive never had it, i did have meningitis as a child though.

Well i guess ill have to wait till the pills are done, or go somewhere else.

Your doctor "figured" you had a strep infection? Didn't they do a strep culture? I recently had a sinus infection that I ignored and it spread to my ears and my lymphnodes... I had severe pain as you described from the base of my neck all the way to my collar bone. I was on Augmentin for 10 days... it wasn't till about day 9 or 10 on the medicine that I started to feel better. Lymphnodes seem to take a bit to heal.

But I would definately go to either a better doctor or an ENT and get it looked at again.

I would go back to your GP for a consultation. If the antibiotics were going to help due to a bacterial based infection you would have seen improvement with in 24 hours, unless your infection is resistant to the antibiotics.

Have you ever had mono? Mono is nasty because it lingers and makes you feel horrible for months.. it also causes lymph node flare ups, sour muscles and throat and the whole ball of wax periodically over about an 18 month period. I wouldn't be worrying over cancer and the like as of yet.

Get blood work drawn to determine if your body is responding to a viral or bacterial assault and if Mono is about in your area.. it is horrible right now at my college campus. You might want to ask to be tested for it as well. Another thing that will set off your jaw and neck lymph nodes is a tooth issue. If you have an infected tooth or root you can have issues as well. Lymph nodes always swell when you have a localized infection or systemic infection.

Don't give up hope yet.. it will get better. But if you had a virus versus a bacterial infection.. the antibiotics would have allowed the virus to get worse.

Sincerely,
MG

Hello, Im a 25 year old male,

About 2 weeks ago i noticed a lump under my jaw, it was sore off and on i went to the doctor and he figured i had a light strep infection, he perscribed pencilin V potasiuum, ive been taking the penicilin for 5 days now and it seems to be spreading, i now have sornes in my trapazoid muscled and also closer to the back of my neck. the pain went away for a few days but now it is back and even worse. I am really worried and do not know what to do, could this be lymphoma? i know lymphoma isnt supposed to be sore, but they stopped being sore untill i had a couple drinks (just a couple) two days ago and then the following day it really hurt, which i know is charactersitic of lymhoma. I really dont know what to do, the pencilin isnt seemlingly doing anything. I havent had any night sweats or severe itching as of yet.

Please if you could give any help i would greatly appriciate it.

Thank you for your time and help.

Best Regards
~Dave
