Could someone please tell me if taking HRT will stop hair loss. My hair has thinned considerably since the menopause. Anyone have success with HRT? Does it make the hair regrow?
Thanking you.

Hi Adela,
I hear you on the hair thinning issue.
I had a total hysterectomy two years ago this October. I was finally put on Hrt because I couldn't stand the results of being in full blown menopause.
I am on the vivelle patch ( v-dot)and love it.
My hair has thinned significantly, but my hair was always pin straight and alittle thin to begin with.
when my hair is completely wet when washing it, I notice there's not much hair thickness wise and it freaks me out.
It does fall out more if you dye it too. but only the day you first dye it.
My hair is beginning to grow longer now which I did notice it wasnt' growing as quickly as it used to. I thought it was just me till I read your post.
there's so many physcial changes in menopause. even being on hormones. but I can't imagine what would happen to my body if I weren't on the hormone patch? It's a savoir to me and I"m glad I was put on it.
what type of hrt are you on?
Linda

Hi Linda,
Thanks for your reply. Glad to hear you're doing well on HRT. I'm not taking any HRT at the moment but considering Livial (Tibolone), which my doctor recommended. Just wondered if it would help regrow some hair and improve the texture. I put up with the awful symptoms like hot flushes/flashes and weathered the storm as I didn't want to take HRT. I still get the occasional hot flush, but my hair is getting thinner and thinner and this was the only thing my doctor could suggest.
All the best,
Adela

Hi Adela,
the texture of my hair improved alot on the hrt.
even my skin tone and the ability to put on weight just on the belly area decreases. I miss my precious hormones and never realized how important they are to us woman. :)
I never heard of the medication you mentioned and have to do research on it to find out more.
is there a reason you can't take the hrt or is it by choice?
I JUST read in a magazine that woman dont' have a greater risk factor of getting cancer if they're only taking plain estrogen. it's the dual medications that can cause a risk of getting it. My patch is only estrogen because I don't have a uterus or any ovaries anymore.
you have to take another hormone with the estrogen if you have them still.
the form of hrt I'm on is made with spanish yams, a more natural form and not the harmful one that hit the news.
I have to commend you on your achiements to stick out the symtoms and I think you're a real trooper to have gone thru that.
good luck on this medication. keep me informed if you can to let me know what you think of it.
I'm curious and intrested to learn about it.
good luck,
Linda
PS- I also use extra rich conditioners now. I can't just use the ones I picked up at the super market anymore because my hair feelsl like hay when it's wet. it really became dried out. so I use a product from a hair supply store that most hair salons purchase they're products from.
it's the same substance you find in the packages of hair dye kits. I always said they should market those conditioners. they're the best.

Hi Linda,
I chose not to take HRT because of the bad publicity about it, how it may cause cancer and stroke for instance. I'm still pondering on it all.

Yes, me too Adela.
but I'm a risk taker and just the fact that Im so stupid to smoke cigarettes shows me I dont care if anything happens to me.
it's ludacrious. I know.
even my two sisters, one full blooded and the other half sister, have had breast cancer. so there is some risk involved for me too in that area.
but, I simply could NOT stand the effects and horrible suffering of sudden menopause that I opted for the risk of HRT.
everyone's bodies are different though. we have to keep this in perspective.
you may need to go on HRT like I did. you've been thru the worst part of it already and you made it on your own.
I guess if I were you, I wouldn't take it either because of the potential risks that's involved. you may be one of the small percentage that does get effected by taking HRT's.
I'm wondering what it would be like if I stopped taking it. how will I know when i"m ready to stop it?
will I still get the bad symtoms ? when do those symtoms stop? or do they last forever since I had it caused by surgical menopause and it didn't happen gradually like it would naturally.
I can't afford to pay for it on my own without insurance and I just lost my job yesterday and I don't know how quick I can get another job.
I have to be very selective with the jobs I chose because of a chronic health condition I have.
I've been thru multiple jobs all within a matter of almost 10 years right after my divorce. paying out of pocket costs me $50 just for 8 patches and those patches dont' last very long.
the pharmaceutical companies have total control over us.
they only care about the money and not peoples health.
I guess I have to stop my venting because it only makes me bitter and doesnt' solve the problem.
I wish you the best on your choice.
if you need or want to talk about it, I'm here and open to talk anytime.
