Hello,

Ok I know nothing about liver problems and I cant find anything online. I recently had blood tests done because my health isnt all that great just now. They came back showing a low iron count of 23 (no idea how low that is) and the doctor said my liver cells were inflamed too, so I had to go for another blood test. What would cause my liver cells to be inflamed? Could they be inflamed because of my low iron? Im confused and a bit worried because the blood tests procedure wasnt the same as usual. They usually take blood and tell you the doctor will contact you if the results show something, but this time the doctor told me i had to have a blood test and then made another appointment with me the following week regardless...odd.

Anyway, if anyone knows any possible reasons for an inflamed liver could you let me know. My family have started spreading the rumour that i am an alcoholic, but I rarely drink :( *sigh*

Thanks

Claire,

I just got a call from my GI doc saying my IRON was low too! He is putting me on Ferrous Gluconate...ever hear of that? I also have raised enzymes and after 2 MRI - CPs and many blood tests, nothing was determined from it. I have Crohn's disease which has alot to do with inflammation, so I think they are connected even if the doc doesnt say they are.

I will be interested to hear what your doc says...sounds like we are in a similar situation.

Kurt

When not alcohol related, there are several things that can inflame your liver. Getting your test results and then seeing a hepatologist (liver sprecialist) are the the best next steps for you. Going to * * * * * * and searching "inflamed liver cause" will give you info on too many causes just yet (Crohns, hepatitis, fatty liver disease, etc.) If any is your stituation, though, you'll find information at all the sites. Good luck.

Thanks for your responses :)

I have been put on ferrous sulphate, 3 x 200mg tablets a day. I will be going back to the doctors on friday for more blood tests and to find out the results of my last blood test. I will report back then. Hopefully if they dont find anything they will still keep looking into it as im taking so much time off work due to lathargy, ive lost my appetite too, I get exhausted going up the stairs (i was really fit and going to the gym alot) its just not nice, feel like a zombie.

Anyway, will let you know what doc says :)

Thanks again for getting back to me.

Claire x
