Last month my doc. put me on 30mg. cymbalta to start off with and for the first month the only side effect i experienced was severe nausea which only lasted a couple of days...
yesterday we raised the dose to 60mg. and let me tell you what happened last night..i do not remember ANY of what happened...but my b/f waked me up
around 5am. to say that i have been thrashing around the bed, kicking my legs everywhere, punching anything that was near me, and screaming at the top of my lungs like i was panicking or being killed (as my b/f put it)
has anyone heard of this happening or have experienced this side effect themselves? and like i said...i do not remember any of it....none what so ever...besides that, this medication is great and goes well with my Wellbutrin Sr. and Dexedrine SR....i would appreciate any opinions, commentaries, etc.
i also take 2mg Xanax at bedtime..thank youcymbalts

I am on Cymbalta and do not know that I've had many side effects personally. I researched it online and have seen many people say there that the side effects are really bad. Sorry you had a bad experience with it.... Call the doctor.

I agree with Miss Molly, definitely call your doc. I am on Cymbalta 60 mg which was helping my depression tremendously and giving me energy. After about 2 months, my depression is almost as bad as it was, but I do have energy. I have had bad headaches, waking up early, unable to get to sleep and then sleeping a lot during the day which could be the depression. I have an appointment to see my doc on the 8th.
I don't know if I could stand a higher dose. The headaches at first were horrendous and occurred daily, but I was determined to stick it out. I have tried almost every single drug for depression every invented. NO exaggeration there. The old tricyclics cause a lot of bad side effects...Wellbutrin did not work. No luck for me with any other SSRI's except Cymbalta.
Sounds like your side effects are worse than commonly expected. I am not sure that I would take one more pill if that had happened to me. I hope you can see your doc soon.
I don't know what I am going to do!!
Good luck,

Cymbalta is actually an SNRI. Serotonin Norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitor.
A couple of days ago the FDA released a BIG letter about Cymbalta and how it misrepresented it's efficacy.
If you don't think it's working, it's probably not.

i increased my xanax to 3mg. at bedtime and the twitching, punching and kicking have seemed to stop....i have been on every SSRI and effexor, wellbutrin...nothing seemed to work but this combination of Cymbalta and Wellbutrin seem to be working well...i can actually see colors now!! before when i went outside, i knew the trees were green but everything seemed so gray and bland...now i can SEE the green of the trees (if that makes sense), the sky is such a beautiful color blue and when the wind blows, i can feel it on my skin and it feels good...before, i felt it..but it was different...i know this might not make sense to a lot of people, but it feels good to be outside and doing things again!!!
i am willing to put up with side effects if the medication works this well..i am so happy with it

I'm glad you are feeling better and I understand exactly what you mean about the way you feel when you go outside. I am taking 30mg right now and not feeling a whole lot better. The 60mg made me not want to eat or sleep without taking something. My son is taking 30 also and he says he's feeling pretty good. Good luck (:

thank you! i am feeling much better....allowing me to enjoy life gives me the opportunity to give my b/f and my dog (our son) :D the love and attention they deserve...if 30mg is not working well and 60mg is too much....maybe you can try 40mg. as cymbalta comes in 20mg. 30mg. and 60mg. i am also glad to hear that your son is feeling well....i suffered from depression and ADHD when i was a young child/teen and did not receive treatment..as a result i abused drugs, alcohol..i have been smoking since i was 12 years old and i dropped out of high school...i wish my mother was as understanding and educated about mental illness as you are....you are a wonderful mother and deserve a lot of praise..

I am over 3 weeks in taper/detox mode from cymbalta and even with the head zaps and dizzyness, I am so happy to be getting free from this drug.
If you drink, at all, do NOT take this drug. I have read that it is very toxic to the liver.
I think we will be seeing a LOT more bad press on this drug...if the FDA issues a warning, it's serious.

I just want to clear something up about the FDA's article on Cymbalta...the FDA has NOT said Cymbalta is ineffective for treating depression! What the FDA said is that Cymbalta is not as effective for treating diabetic nerve pain as the manufacturers claimed it to be. No one has been questioning its efficacy for treating depression...
