I have visited the HBP board and just dropped in on this board to read up.. this year I was told I have high blood pressure. was put on several bp meds and a puffer. they made me goofy as hell wicked side effects. so I stopped taking them and took the meds to my doctor and told her to do what she wanted with them but I was not taking them no more.
I have fibro also. back problems ddd, last xray showed my vertabras self fuseing.
went to er with chest pain dx'd with costocondritis and told to get a stress test done.
there is I found out a very bad history with family in the heart department problems the kind that kills you instantantly with no real warnings like my aunti died in her sleep with a massive heart attack she had finished up a potato salad that evening that was for the big bbq the next day.
2 months ago my brothers daughter 29 fell dead after getting out of the shower walking to her bed to get dressed for work..her work clothes were layed out on the bed..she was dead before she hit the floor.
my nana I just remember her always carrying her nitro pills in her bussom..hehe she would pop them like candy..never talked about her heart problems only that the pills were for her heart she passed away with a heart attack about 1 hr after getting up she was having her morning coffee and never knew what hit her. My great uncle had a massive heart attack while driving and they found him the next day on the side of the road slumped over in the front seat dead.
my half brother the only one who has survived a heart attack and lived to tell about it told me if a lady had not seen him run off the road and called an ambulance he wouldnt be here today..(he said his chest hurt and then he passed out) he has had several since then but now knows what his heart attack symptoms are and gets to the hospital asap.
I had called him because my heart started hurting like being stabed in it, or like an old car motor when cranked it spits and spudders then takes off good, other times like someone had a death grip on it. the pains would shoot from my neck to my heart then down my left shoulder and arm then start all over again. the center of my chest the sternum well, forget about even touching it..then the rib pain and the lung pain. thats when I went to the er and dx'd with costo.
I dont want to get everything blamed on fibro. with the heart issues with my family (even tho I just found out how many had this problem) I feel I problaly need to be more concerned aboout my heart..so I guess I will be hanging around to learn as much as I can from you guys and hopefully be able to help myself and my heart feel better. on monday I have a stress test on a threadmill wish me luck. :D

Meds are good for high bp but don't forego exercise. It is best to begin under the supervision of a hospital cardiac care program. Made a huge difference for me.

GOOD LUCK ON THE STRESS TEST!! :) :)

Are you using the chemical injection to get your heart rate up, or are you running?

YOU MUST KEEP YOUR BP WITHIN THE NORMAL RANGE, especially with your family history. Take your medicine! We almost all suffer these side effects. :(

Sounds like SCD (sudden cardiac death) runs in your family and age isn't a factor.
My cardiologist is worried about me having that, so the meds I'm on give me a great sense of relief. The one positive thing about SCD is that it is sudden and no pain.

:) hiya all,

well an update. I showed up at the hospital for the stress test and ask untill someone got me to the right place (3 people later) I ended up in the waiting room my appointment was at 7:30am and it was way past 9 by the time I got to see someone who took me to a hall way and said that door down there take it and walked away..I got lost...went in physcial therapy room..well I seen a threadmill and a lady on it so I figured that was it..wrong..so that guy took me all the way back around to the nurses station where I started out from the waiting room. after 4 people discussing where I needed to be and how I was gonna pay I was took back around to the same hall way and I said tell me the name on the door and she said xray. ok..found it.
thats how my day started. I didnt know nothing about a stress test and the guy in that room told me it was a 3 steper and proceeded to rattle off greak to me..then ask if I needed to go pee. of course I did my coffee was hitting me. He ask me "you had coffee"? and I said yes @6:30am I did. He told me that someone should have told me not to drink coffee because with the med they put in the IV was to do something to my heart and the coffee has the oppesite effect and they would cancel each other out. ok find; still didnt know what the big deal was and ask if we were gonna still have the test? he said yes hooked me up with an IV shot some clear stuff in it then told me to get up on this very narrow bed and hold my arms above my head and be completly still for 30 min no moving. after that torture I was escorted back down the hall to this little room with a thread mill in it where I was hooked up with a bunch of wires then told to step on the thread mill..the lady turned it on and called the other guy back and said she started he then came in the room and put somemore stuff in the IV..if there was a hell I was in it.. they told me it would only be for 6 mins it seemed like an eternity! they gave me no warning when they speeded it up at the same time made the incline steaper and it all but spun me off the back twice. on the last speed up?? things started going black in and out, gasping for air and I was racked in pain I managed to puff out in as few words as i could how much longer for christ sakes? to my horrow she said your doing good just keep it up! I lost it then and boo hooed told them it was two way too fast and I was could not continue by then I had muscle cramps in both calves, back felt like it would break couldnt hardly get enough air my right foot was draging still they told me to keep walking as they put it walk it out dont just stop!! Keep your head up!! and got the machine slowed down and finally with the two holding me up managed to stop the devil machine.and I though that would be the end of the punishment by now?? NOPE it was back to the torture board for another 30 mins.
So to answer one question If I had known not to drink that coffee I would not have. and If I had known I could skip the thread mill you betcha I would have opted out of it and went the other route..the little guy told me that I had a choise before we started IF I had not drank that coffee..grrrrrr.

so if there is anyone out there reading this and have to have a stress test done find out all you can about it and depending on your health wheather you should opt out of it or not and go the iv only route. its not just a walk in the park.

of course this was my experience only. and I did not get the results yet the guy told me it would be a few days to get that.

to the last poster thanks for telling me what the sudden heart attack death is called I didnt know it had a name. I really hope that I dont have it after all heck just these test they put you through is enough for me. as I said I am so new to all this stuff and have no clue. I feel like a blind person feeling my way
