Not according to my NS. Percocet has Tylenol that can damage your liver. I think if you don't abuse percocet you might be okay taking it long term. Also, don't drink alcohol while taking percocet.

As long as you take it as directed. You shouldn't take no more than 3000 mg of tylonol a day.So if your perc. has 500 mg. of tylonol,thats 6 a day. Remember,they come in different strengths,for example-

The second number is the tylonol mg.[first number is the oxycodone mg]

I just had this conversation with my doctor -- as long as you stay under the daily limits for tylenol. Remember if you take anything else with tylenol to include that in your daily totals.

You also have to remember,even though the suggested daily amount is 3000mg of tylonol,its very very unhealthy to take all at once.I'm not saying you or anyone in particular does,But I've talked to some people that take 3,or 4 at a time!

I have been taking percocet since early 2000. I started out on the 5.? milligrams & increased to 7.5. I am now prescribed 120 10/650 percocets per month. The stuff still works for me & I have zero side effects. :)
That's exactly what I took for almost 2 years, 120 10/650 endocets. I thought I never had any side effects either. That is, until I had my liver checked. Not so good to say the least! That's when I made a decision to get off of them for good.

Under a doctors care you can take it long term but without harm to you will depend on the dosage and what you are taking it for and if you have any liver problems. Any narcotic taken long term will have to be increased at some point. Good luck.

As I understand it, the reason large doses of Tylenol are damaging to the liver is the way it is metabolized. A certain enzyme produced by the liver alters the tylenol to a form that can be excreted by the body. If this enzyme is used up, a different enzyme is produced which alters the tylenol to a different substance which is highly corrosive to the liver. An amino acid N-Acetyl-Cysteine, which is avalable in health food stores, is the precursor of the good enzyme. This is the same substance which is given in the emergency room to people who have overdosed on tylenol. Taking this can help to mitigate liver damage from chronic tylenol use.
