View Full Version : Chronic Back Pain and Medical Apathy

Years ago I began having back problems related to two spots of scar tissue based around my spine. I was playing on several sports teams and it was looking as if I would be continuing my sports career into college until I began having pain from running. Every time that I would run my lower back would get inflamed and I would be forced to sit the bench.
I was forced to stop playing all of my sports and take on new hobbies and give up my passion. I went to my local physician and the doctor's assistant took x-rays and said that I had developed lumps of scar tissue and that removal of the tissue or cortisone injections could relieve my pain and allow me to return to sports. When I then went to the orthopedic doctor to look at the possible fixes , he said he had never even heard of those solutions and that my pain wasn't caused by the lumps. He charged me my copay and sent me on my way with my back still throbbing in pain.
It has been several years since all this happened and I am now learning to cope with the pain which is constant and never dull. I have gone to the doctor several times since, but my "weight problem" is now the apparent cause of my pain. I am so frustrated with my local medical community and I want to get back into being an active member of society. Any suggestions?
