Hi, I am a 21 year old female college student, non-smoker, and have never been on birth control pills. For the past few weeks I have had pain that seemed to radiate from my groin to the middle of my inner right thigh. Now whenever I take a step I get a wierd, sharp pain in the middle of my inner thigh. I haven't noticed any swelling or redness. I am not very active (I don't exercise) and spend a lot of the day sitting through class with my legs tightly crossed. I don't know if that would cause a blood clot but I am really scared because the pain is so odd. Also, what kind of docter would I see if there is a chance I have a clot?

i'm sorry to hear that you are having pain. it sounds like it might be a pulled muscle but it certainly could be a blood clot and sometimes there is no reason, stranger things have happened. i think it definitely doesn't hurt to have it looked at. if you don't have a doctor, you could always go to a walk in clinic and have them look at you.
also, is there any history in your family of blood clots? if there is, i would make sure you tell the doctors that because that is very important. in my case, my mother has had 3 clots and i recently had foot surgery which ended up with a clot. i had swelling and pain but i really don't know if that is always present.
good luck and i hope it is nothing serious. keep us posted. : )

I agree completely with what -hmlyn04- said. I would really get it looked at, if only for piece of mind. I thought that my blood clot was the pulled sciatic nerve in my back, radiating down my leg but it wasn't, and I sure wish I had gotten mine looked at sooner. It sounds like you just have a pulled muscle, but if you're noticing it and it's a different kind of pain than you're used to, the best thing is just to get checked out. Blood clots can form in your groin area (I had one) so it is possible, but it sounds like just a pulled muscle :)
The way they test for blood clots is usually through an ultrasound preformed right on the leg that is bothering you. I've had them quite a few times. I had mine done at the ER when I went because my leg was so bad, but it could be done through other doctors I'm sure, or they might refer you to a place that would do it.
I think too, that if your family has a history of blood clots (like was mentioned :) ) I would point this out to a doctor that you see. Please do let us know how things go, and I wish you only the best! Also if I can answer any more questions, just let me know. Take care.

Thank you both so much for your concern. I went to bed with the pain and woke up without it so I am taking that as a good sign. I am hoping it is just a pulled muscle. Of course though I am now hyper-sensitive to any sort of sensations in my leg. If the pain comes back I am going to make a doctor's appointment. I do not believe blood clots run in my family, just that two of my grandparents have had strokes (when they were elderly) and my grandmother and my dad have high blood pressure, if that would affect it. Thanks again for your replies, it helped a lot!
