I never had HBP until a few years ago. It was brought on by a very stressful situation. Went on Catapres. Dr. has had to up the dosage and lower the dosage a couple of times. Even on it BP was always somewhere around 145/87. I quit smoking 8 weeks ago:) :D BP has been stable at 117/65 since . What are my chances of going off the catapres?? Any opinions?

I was on the lowest dose of Clonidine (Catapres). In some people it actually has the opposite effect of raising b/p which I think happened to me. It took me two tries & two months to get off of it even though I was on the lowest dose. I think it was 0.01mg twice a day.

Be very careful if you decided to go off of it. Check with your Dr. You can get rebound hypertension in which your b/p goes higher than it was before you started.

Congratulations on quitting smoking. That is impressive how your b/p came down.

If you do all the lifestyle stuff, you might be able to go off of it. Fam

Hi Fam...that's what I figured. I would never stop it without my Dr.s Ok as I'm too afraid I would spike dangerously high. I don't know if he'll let me stop it but I'm figuring that being normal for so long should count for something.I see him the end of the month and he'll have at least 4 great readings by then so maybe. Also I only take one a day of the .1 so the dosage being so low I'm not sure if it's helping anyway.
