DaveInVA 10-04-2007, 11:29 AM A ct scan is much more accurate than a standard chest x-ray. The accuracy despends somewhat on what they started out looking for and whether or not they did it with contrast or not as contrast will show things that might not turn up without etc... Dave charlies girl 10-04-2007, 11:46 AM I have had pain in my chest for months and have had numerous x rays all do not show anything. After going around in circles for i dont know how long i have now had a ct scan with dye injected. I have had loss of appetite, nausea, and weight loss. Had other tests abdominal ct scan, brain ct scan all show nothing which is good news, however i am due to see my specialist on mon for the results of the ct chest scan and i am frightend that they have found something. I started to be unwell last july and i am still not right now, i have no cough or blood just these other symptons. DaveInVA 10-04-2007, 01:15 PM Hopefully they will not find anything bad. Standard chest x-rays can miss a lot because the mass might be hidden by bone or another structure... My cancer went misdiagnosed for a long time until it was found by accident when I was getting a CT scan for possible prostate cancer. Dave charlies girl 10-04-2007, 04:07 PM Oh no that must have been a big shock for you, did you have any symptoms? and hope you don't mind me asking what type of cancer is it? I had a routine check up in April and they found a mole on the back of my neck, i had it removed and it was melanoma, i then had to have a second incision to make sure that it had all gone. I am so thankful that it was found and removed quickly. Thankyou for taking the time to answer my questions:) DaveInVA 10-04-2007, 09:00 PM For years I had chronic bronchitis and random chest pains. I was always told it was either allergies or valley fever causing it all. I am a lifelong non smoker, It turned out to be carcinoid cancer which is fairly rare and as cancers go its slower growing. The ended up removing the right middle lobe of my lungs and some nearby lymph nodes. The tumor itself was 7.7 cm by 5 cm. Dave charlies girl 10-11-2007, 06:51 AM Had results from ct scan, there are shadows on both lungs, doc said that this was quite usual in some people, didn't mention any thing suspicious, any ways he is referring me to chest specialist because of the pain i am still getting. I still cant help but worry, if there was something wrong would it have been more obvious than shadows? I am still non the wiser, he was not very convincing or helpful, came out of the hospital confused... |
