do any of you experience leg pains? They go all the way up the back of my legs almost to my butt. My legs just ache, at first it was just at night, now it is even during the day. I get intermittent chest pains too.
Thanks for any info

I've actually had something like this most of my life--even when I wasn't anemic. But not sure it's the same thing. It mostly happens when I get severely fatigued. It's like a 'migraine' in my legs. Ibuprofen usually really helps it. But not sure we're talking about the same thing.

For several years I had leg pains at night. I would wake up with achiness that was pretty intense in my legs. It wasn't cramping just achey in a serious way. When I raised my ferritin and vitamin d levels -the aches just stopped. This is now going on about 4 months or so, no aches when it had been fairly constant at night for several years. I do not know whether it was the vit d or the iron supplementation that did it as I did both same time. Both iron deficiency and vit d deficiency are known for causing aches and pains. Is your ferritin level ok? Is your vitamin d level ok?

Thanks to you both for the replies. I have no clue what any of my levels are but I am going to have Dr.s office send me a copy of my bloodwork. But yes, my legs did ache and it was not my muscles...all the way to the top of my legs....seemed to mostly be the back sides. Would you have leg pains some nights and not others? I didn't have any last night, but about 6pm I took 800mg of ibuprofen. What was your dose of vitamin D? Thanks again

Lady-The leg pains were not absolutely every night but were something that was fairly regular for several years. Vitamin d dosing is a rather controversial area at this time. I started at 800IU a day and then 1200IU, then 2,000IU and now about 4000Iu. All along I have been having my vit d level monitored with a 25oh blood test . I must add that I am on another med that eats up the vit d and can reduce your levels by 30 percent or so. This is a med for osteoporosis. Yet, many people have vit d deficiency esp. those living above 48th parallel which makes it impossible to get vit d from the sun in the winter months. Check vitamin d council on the net for very scholarly but understandable info on vit d. Last vit d level was 47 and I am proceeding still with the project but may be able to cut dose somewhat soon. Anyway, all sources do say if you are on high dose d to remedy a deficiency have your blood levels monitored and do this with a doc who can adjust dose. My night leg thing was just deep ache all along the legs, not sharp cramps. As I said though whether it was the vit d or iron or both that took care of the problem I don't know. But I will always be sure now to have these levels checked.
Be sure to let us know how your project to stop the leg pains goes. If your doc has tested these levels recently, that will give you some info. If not a recent test then I would think you should get the levels tested. Some here also say they have aches and pains with b12 deficiency- I don't know anything about this as it hasn't been something I have dealt with but maybe you could check that too. Good luck:)
