I had several tests run recently and wonder what they all mean. My understanding is that I have a lot of inflammation, arthritis, but not sure which arthritis. My joints are painful and sometimes my bones just plain ache. I'm looking at going on methotrexate possibly but side effects are of concern.

Would appreciate anyone who can give an explanation of what all this means.

Beta Globulin 1.5 High
C-Reactive Protein, Cardiac 19.01 High
Sedimentation Rate - Westergren 36 High
Comlement C3 Serum 199 High
Complement C4 Serum 52 High
PTT-LA Lupus 52.3 High
Aorta is Tortuous
Mild degenerative changes involving the spine
Bones (hands) mildly demineralized
L5 appears transitional on the left
Degenerative changes involving sacroiliac joints

Hello S Park
I dont really understand all the results but do know that the drug you have mentioned MTX is the standard drug for people with rheumatoid arthritis. It has been used for many years and lots is known about it. In England you are carefully monitored on this drug (regular blood tests monthly) to check liver etc is all working properly. I see you also mention a lupus test but am unable to help on this as not sure what the result means. I have been dx with RA but am having lupus tests at present as sometimes it is difficult to establish which arthritis one has as there are over 200 types. Goodluck with taking the drugs and keep us informed of progress.
