Took 50/mg atenol with 25mg diuretic for 1 1/2 yrs. Dr. stopped my atenol cold turkey 16 days ago and started Avapro 3 days later. Been on Avapro 13 days at 150mg. I feel extremely anxious and nervious much of the time with BP ratings from 140/90 to 165/97, my heart rate was as high as 97 for about the first week but now ranges from 78 to 92. I just feel as if I have all this adrenaline pulsing through my body much of the time, when I have this feeling that's when my really high BPs occur! Would guess I'm having some kind of anxiety but not completely sure I understand what anxiety truely is?

I see Avapro side effects indicate some of these things but I have read so much bad stuff on these boards about atenol withdrawal that I don't know which one is the likely culpert the atenol or the Avapro?

Anyone have any experience, seems like most people have indicated that atenol withdrawal levels out in about a week could I still be suffering 16 days post withdrawal?

Howdy, small world, I'm in Ft. Collins too.

To start, I've been dealing with anxiety for over 10 years now. Have good control of it now and it doesn't bother me anymore, but when I didn't understand it and trying to get through engineering school, I use to just think about a panic attack and I could trigger the adrenaline rush, pretty scary at the time.

It's most likely the Atenolol, I was on Atenolol years ago to help with the anxiety and BP along with Propanolol within the last year or two. Both are beta-blockers and will slow your heart down. I wanted to try other meds as the Propanolol really made me feel tired all the time, but I was worried about coming off of it and the associated anxious feelings. Coming off the beta blockers wasn't as bad as I expected, yes I did feel anxious for a week or two but it was tolerable.

If you can manage your anxiety during this transition, it should be settling down for you soon...
