Hi,

I did a ****** search for message boards and come across these. It is sure hard to find boards for adults with CP. So many resources for kids, and parents but so few for adult life.

I am 24F with mild-moderate CP. I contracted meningitis at 10 months. I have been happily married for two years to an abled bodied man. I moved to Canada from the US when I got married, as my husband is Canadian and was finishing school at the time.

I am just hoping to find some people who can relate, and who might have suggestions, as I am finding mobility to be more and more difficult the older I get  I also am having a hard time finding a good job even though I have a BA, and I honestly think it is because employers question my ability to function due to my crutches. It has been all so frustrating.

Hello Cortney, Welcome aboard. I also have CP. I wonder do you have the same CP I have? Cause I walk on crutches too. :)
God bless,
Deborah

Thanks for the welcome!

I have spastic diplegia. I walk without crutches at home, in the office etc, but I can not stop without holding onto something, and my balance is quite bad. So, really I should use my crutches always :)

Hi, and welcome to the board!

I too can relate. My husband Tygh (pronounced Ty) has CP.MY hubby has been trying to find a job for most of the time we've been married (9.5 years), with little success. He is a very bright individual, but people see that he's in a wheelchair, has a visual impairment and a slight speech impairment and can't seem to realize that he CAN do the job! So much for 'we don't discriminate becuase of disability!!'

I look forward to getting to know you more on this board!

Becky

Yeah, I have been looking for steady employment since April and have been on many interviews. When employers advertise the "we don't discriminate" montra, sometimes I think it should have (unless you sound, walk, act, etc. differently) after it!

Good news on the job front. I was offered a decent job with a good company a couple weeks ago, and start on Tuesday. They have been amazing, going as far as getting me a cart to make it easier for me to move files and stuff around the office.

Thanks! So far so good. They have been very good, I have been floored by how much they want to make sure everything is as assessable for me as possible. :)
