Ok, wondering if anyone else on this board had the terrible vertigo that made you fall, get sick, go to the hospital....the severe spinning, that made you feel you were dying?

I had a 2-3 hour episode where the room spun, and I had to get sick a number of times..then was sent to the hospital. I hear of so many of you just feeling "off" to start.

Anyone have the same start as I did?

Thats how this first hit me---crawled into the bathroom---constant vertigo---could not get out of bed for 72 hours(except to craw in to the bath room)....

Hi Charlotte,

Yes, definitely! The first time I had this, it started with no warning whatsoever. Got out of bed and wham! I didn't fall or get sick, but I definitely had trouble walking, bumping into walls, holding onto stuff to stay upright. Don't recall how long it lasted, it seemed an eternity at the time, lol. It probably didn't last more than about 10 minutes.

Freaked me the hell out.

Hi Charlotte, I'm right there with you! I had a perfectly normal day and then bam...I was hit with severe spinning that brought me to my knees. I couldn't stand up, I eventually started vomiting and my husband took me to the hospital b/c I thought I must be having a stroke or I was going to pass out. Had to be the scariest day of my life. It took a couple of weeks to feel half way normal again and then I was hit with the classic symptoms of BPPV which I still suffer from 1 year later. I was told the initial onset was labrynthitis, still not so sure of that or why my BPPV subsides and comes back. See ya! Hope that helps!

I had some on and off dizziness that was getting worse and worse for about 2weeks before my big attack of vertigo. I woke up one morning with the severe spinning and no balance.

Hi Subs

Did you only get the one severe true vertigo attack? The classic sign of vestibular neuritis! I bet it was easy to diagnose...!

Thanks for sharing with me. I just have heard so many people say they "just felt off" I didn't know if I was alone with the terrible vertigo start!

Thanks again.

Subs, I had no idea that is how yours started!

Hi Adam

Hope all is going well!

Got many more then one---in the first 72 hours---then I suspect the Cerebral Clamp took place---from then on out(next 13/14 months)would get vertigo--depending on the position of my head...

My problem was the "pre- existing vision" condition---I had compensated for that----at least 20 years before the vestibular injury.

Univ of Penn Dr's Shepard & Dr Ruckenstein---figured it out at abt 12 months---by 13/14 months it was history(for the most part)---until the 24 month---one spin there---after working under the car---then nothing---....total time abt 6 years in 2008.

1ST Dx = Lab, 2nd Dx = VN, 3rd Dx = VN W/BPPV.

Yes Charlotte I was fine the morning of March 5th not a sign of what was to come.....then About 11am I was standing up and everything spun I stumbled out into the hall and collapsed....That was the first start of antyhing going wrong....

Yep, it is a ride...

I only had the 1 vertigo, spinning episode...and man, it was a whopper. I must have got sick about 6 times...1x actually at the hospital. They initially thought I was having trouble with the baby (8 months pregnant)...but then after all the tests, they said it was prob. a virus.

Going on 14 months now...and I am noticing I am just dealing with visual crap now. I bet hormones, lack of sleep, and weening the baby the start of Sept. hasn't helped.

Subs, I have taken your advice and got mad. I am not stopping 'till I am fixed.

You said that by month 14 you felt 100% mostly...did you have blips after that? If so, can you describe what they felt like?

Thanks so much.

Hi Charlotte

....."You said that by month 14 you felt 100% mostly...did you have blips after that? If so, can you describe what they felt like?"....

Yep---one(and only one)---it was a vertigo spin---it felt like I might be taking a trip back---to the beginning---at month 24.

It was nothing like that at all----did MEP's---after the first nothing---continued on for three more spaced out over 24 hours---no spinning---so stopped the MEP's.

Only do them now about once every couple of weeks---some times forget---and will go a couple of months between----but if I think I feel a spin---coming on---immed do an MEP....

So far nothing---since month 24---and then---it was not much(working under the car did it---my guess).

Hi Charlotte that exactly how it started for me too, but I didn't go to hospital I was at home alone with 2 teenagers in the night and I didn't want to scare them and worry them, so I stuck it out until the morning and then called my doc.

Ahhh, Jayne...you are such a trooper. I know how hard that is. I only went to the hospital due to the fact they thought it was pregnancy related...

How are you doing? What symptoms are you still dealing with? Still doing vrts?

Love chatting with you.

Hi Charlotte, I'm doing ok thanks, had a couple of 95% days last week, but also had a couple of 75% days?? It's been 2 years last week since this thing hit! I did manage to clean our settee and chairs yesterday with the wet and dry, I thought all that bending and looking down may have an effect, but touch wood I feel ok this morning and the furniture looks lovely and clean! Suffering a bit with the IBS the last few days, I hate it, never had any stomach issues before this vestibular stuff!

I still do the VRT's usually first thing in the morning then sit in bed and drink a cuppa before the mad chase to get everyone out of the house, it does mean getting up half hour earlier though. . lol. If I'm having a rough dizzy spell I usually do them again at night followed by a nice relaxing bath.

I have an appointment to see the doc next Thursday, this was the doc that 10 months ago said we will keep a close eye on you and has cancelled 3 appointments so far, so it will have been 10 months since I last saw him, wonderful health service we have here!!!!

It's tough with a family whether they are young or old, we all want the best for our kids but I have found that taking an hour out every day for me has helped so much, even if it's just an hour relaxing on the bed with my book, easy now the girls are teenagers, although I'm sure their demands are more now than when they were toddlers!!, Our eldest is learning to drive and I've even been out with her to instruct, that is certainly something I couldn't have done 2 years ago, 18 months ago or possibly even 12 months ago. So when you look back you can see how far I have come on the road to recovery although some days still seem tough! It's the visual symptoms that drive me mad, somedays my eyes just won't work together and other days they are perfect?? The floaters some days drive me insane and other days I don't see them, the shimmering vision I don't have so often but do notice it when I'm tired or I've had a glass of wine!!:dizzy:

Have you got over your bad spell yet? they are so scary aren't they all those fears about is it something more serious all come to the surface again don't they, let me know how it's going for you.

Has anyone experienced what I did......not vertigo, and infact no idea how to describe it....right-hand side brain seemed to tune out. all I thought I could hear was white noise in one side of my brain...although I could still hear my son talking etc...and felt dragged to the right hand side quite dramatically. I used the words "numb" and "blur" ...but infact I did not go numb and did not get any visual problems.
After about 10 mins it went off.
Gradually over the next 2 weeks persistent half-rotational dizziness started, which led to a panic attack which led to me being signed off work...now in week 6.
I don't get the half-rotational dizziness, but persistent feeling of wooziness or heavy right hand side, full ear...as though something lodged in it....shimmering light vision sometimes on right hand side, sometimes head pressure, nausea but have never vomited.
ENT and GP no idea what problem is so waiting for MRI and to see a General Med. consultant.
does this sound like anything anyone has suffered from?

Jayne...

I totally agree with this illness...it really is a cruel beast. Can I ask how old you were when it hit? I was 38...damn, I hate that day it happened.

I have to say I have been using some hypno tapes for my belly issues and mine are more in check...it is a hypno guy from england...LOVE THEM>

As for my symptoms, they are mainly visual. I still ramp up in stores, crowded places. My eyes still seem off with depth, tracking...and even just moving them from one object to another.

I am doing vrts religiously, exercising, walking. I am going to do more stores and busy places. Damn it, I am not going to stop till i am 100%.

How is your family about this?

I won't stop either Charlotte, infact even when i'm 100% (see the determination there) I'll continue VRTing just in case. . lol.

I was 42 when it hit me, I can remember it VERY clearly!!

My family are brilliant, my mother in law has suffered with EXACTLY the same for 15 years (I hope I haven't got it for that long) so the support from her has been brilliant although she has had to give up a lot of things now as she is well into her 70's she copes marvellously so consequently most of my hubbys family are quite up on the symptoms etc which has been a big help. Neither of my parents understood what was going on, they just keep saying there doesn't look anything wrong with you, until my mom gat Labs November last year and is still fighting with her Doc to get the right VRT's (she lives in a different part of the country, different health authorities work differently)
My Hubby is my soulmate and he says he has suffered everystep of the way with me. . lol. He has been there 100% and has never walked away from me when I've needed him. He works VERY long hours (self employed) but at times has given those up to run the household and run around 2 teenage daughters, the girls well they have been good, they could see how bad I was to start with and they keep telling me I'm getting better. I've tried to play it down with them a lot of the time, they have both had important years with exams at school and needed support. Our eldest did ask if it was life threatening in the beginning we told her no and when she sees my upset by it or having a bad day she says "it's not going to kill you Mom, you will be ok". . . bless! I've said this many times Charlotte I'd rather me got this than any of them, I don't know how I'd cope if I knoew one of my kids was feeling like I'd felt at times over the last 2 years.
Keep challenging yourself .

Jayne...I totally agree with you. I would rather have this than my husband or child. I have a great support system. My sister has bvvp...so the family knows what this is all about.

Sounds like you are still dealing with visuals...that is my major complaint. Funny we are only 3 yrs apart but are dealing with so much of the same stuff. I started a new diet and hypno for my belly issues...and it has helped loads. I would be happy to share it with you...Honestly Mike mahoney's hypno ibs tapes have done wonders. I never believed it would work (typical skeptic) but it has really helped.

I won't let you give up till 100%. You are a dear heart, and I am sorry you are dealing with this. I don't know if you have posted on other dizzy forums...I do...

wishing you the very best.

Hi Charlotte, how weird my dizzy doc is called Mahoney. . .lol. I tried hypnosis and boy did it clear my system out, everything I ate for 3 days after went straight through me!! I've been on a diet for IBS and also trying to deal with the Heal your Headache diet as well, stomach not much better but I have lost a few pounds!

Yes I post occasionally in another dizzy place under a different name, but not so often there, I've reckognised a few faces in there. . . lol.

Right everyone screaming for evening meal here so better get cracking, off to the shopping mall after.. .wish me luck!

Hi.

As you may have read before, I started with a strong waking up true spinning positional vertigo, which gave me trouble even to get out of bed.

Scary as hell.

Curiously my long lasting "chronic vertigo phase" which I haven't recovered from, with jumping visuals, unsteadiness, fog, and little spin bursts, actually started more than a year before that attack, still can't figure out why.

Hi people. My husband has just had a second attack of L'itis, first one was 2 years ago. and took about 10 months to get better. In the meantime, we went on a cruise and as soon as the ship sailed, he had no symptoms!! The doc says he has never heard of that, but to me it's obvious, the ship is moving all the time, so my guess is that the ear can't tell what's going on, so it stops being symptomatic.

Anyway, he now has just had a bad episode again for a couple of days. What are these "initials" that you all talk about>? VRT and something else?

Thanks for sharing

Jean
