Finished a chemo session. Mouth is dry and everything tastes like cardboard. Tried Biotene products (gum, toothpaste, etc.) and the usual mouthwashes without much help so far. Anyone found a remedy for this annoying side effect??? Thanks...

hey!
you suffer from xerostomia. that is MD lingo for dry mouth. i have it too. It feels like I have a cotton-mouth hangover. your tried the Biotne to no avail. sk the doc for pilocarpine-based Rx (Salagen, Evoxac). Drink a lot of cold water. Suck on ice cubes, sugar-free popsicles and hard candy. Try Salix saliva tabs. pour lots of gravy on your grub. There are lots of saliva subs, like mouthkote, Salivart and Stopper-4.
Now, thhis I hae trouble with. We are suppose to avoid beverages with caffine and alcohol.
Good Luck!!!!!

I have this from chemo and radiation. Biotene products are good, but I find rinsing with salt water, or baking soda and water, are also good. I drink lots of club soda, too. Strong lemon water can also get the saliva going.

Hello
I have found a product on the market called "Aqua Drops." It is n with the coughdrops usually. I am no longer in cancer treatment, but have dry mouth from medicines that I take. These lozenges are the best thing I have found to help combat drymouth. They keep the mouth feeling hydrated. The cost is about $1.59 for 12 lozenges.
Best wishes in treatment.

Thanks everyone for the comments and suggestions. I am now the possessor of 43 different products (well that may be an exaggeration) designed to combat dry mouth. All have some benefit but I've been rinsing with a salt solution and that seems to help as much as anything and is nice and cheap. Things are better at the moment but I'll be well prepared for the next session. Again, Thanks...
