I am a male in my early 30's, and have maintained an average amount of evenly-distributed hair on my chest and stomach post-puberty. Recently, the hair on the outer parts of my upper chest, and the lower part of my stomach below the naval, has thinned out. In the case of my upper chest, it is almost bare. I have male-pattern baldness, and have been taking finasteride for the last two years. My understanding is that the DHT which the medication inhibits, while detrimental to hair on the scalp, is essential to hair on the body. Is this true? Can a reduction in DHT cause a reduction in body hair? Could the same medication I'm using to eliminate hair loss on my head be promoting hair loss on my body? If I stop taking finasteride and allow DHT to flourish, will the hair on my chest and stomach regrow? Any information would be much appreciated. Thanks!!! :)
