please help!!!!i had unprotected sex several times with the same guy 11 years ago. i had an aids test about 3 months later which was negative. i was advised to have another six months later and never did. i have since had a child who is 8 years old and healthy. but i cant help worrying that i should have had a retest and maybe it was missed the first time!!!would my daughter have shown sympttoms by now? could i be hiv positive after all this time? would i have obvious symptoms by now? they say it can be over a decade before symptoms can reveal themselves!!

No, there is no possible way for you to be HIV positive, no way, no how. HIV typically reveals itself around the 5 year to 10 year mark, 10 years being on the later side. You would definately be showing symptoms as would your child. Children who are born with HIV begin showing symptoms around 5 years of HIV. You are in the clear and have absolutly nothing to worry about.

It depends on the test. Remember, she was tested 11 years ago when the tests weren't as good.

But it really depends on the test. I'm not quite clear what you're referring to...

clarify please

what she is referring to is the 3 month window from the time of exposure until the time of testing to be considered conclusive. back 11 years ago, the recommondations were different then today, as some the tests were fairly new and they wanted you to wait longer to err on the side of caution.today with being able to study the tests and results they have figured out alot better how they work and the time needed to be effective.
as for the original poster, yes, it has been recorded that someone has gone over ten years without showing symptoms, the thing is,that it is extremely very rare for this to happen. i highly doubt that this would be the case with you. so for the most part, it is another overhyped thing that you will read somewhere on the internet.
good luck
