I had an extensive bunionectomy in october. My toe still doesn't bend downward. Has anyone else experienced this after bunion surgery? My dr. said i will never have the same range of motion downward because of such an extensive procedure. Any info would help!I'd like info on post op bunionectomy experiences. Thanks.

I had my surgery in January but have more range of motion in my foot than I did before, although it's not much. I also had a joint put in my toe to create some range of motion.
Did your doctor say anything about repeat surgery? Sometimes they do.
How is your foot otherwise? Can you wear shoes?Do you still have any swelling? Can you walk normally or excercise? Please tell me this all gets better http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

I can walk but the joint still hurts.
My Dr. didn't say anyting about repeat surgery. e said that would just cause more scar tissue. Was your surgery extensive though? How long were You off your feet? I was on crutches will an cast below the knee for about 2 months. So the joint in your foot does bend downward? Like I said mine doesn't at all now. It's annoying. Do you still have pain and soreness?

I had alot of work done (bone shaved, implant and holes drilled in my cartilage) but I didn't have crutches or a cast.Just a small boot and I was told to ice and elevate as much as possible. I stayed home from work for 3 weeks and then returned. I can do alot more now than I could - wear sneakers, ride stationary bike.... but I still can't wear shoes or lift off the foot (although I guess that's normal). My toe does bend downwards a little but it hurts if I push it. I had NO range of motion before in my toe though, so it's better than it was. I have minimal pain.
I'm sorry to hear you're still in pain w/limited motion. I would think that by now you'd be fully recovered. Maybe you need some physical therapy to help get movement back. You should talk to the doctor about that. My doctor did suggest that I'll need that in the future. Good luck.
