View Full Version : I'm Paranoid and really scared...

I needed to pop a pimple on Sunday. I used a hook( like the one the dentists use to pull out fillings) to pop it. Prior to using it I noticed some dried blood was on it, so I cleaned it with Hydrogen Peroxide by pouring some onto a cotton pad and scrubbing. The blood was my mothers. I know she does the same thing with the hook. She does not have hiv or any other things transmissible through blood. After getting the blood off, I rinsed it under some water used it. The hook came in contact with my blood. I've called local resources and they say there is a very small risk, still I'm really scared. They say I either wait 1 month to get tested and pay $390 or wait 3 months and get tested for free. So someone please tell me how worried should I be. To whom ever answers thank you for your time and sorry for the long post.

Don't appologize for the length of a post, this is a place to get help so the more details the better (so long as they're in good taste of course). First off, I wouldn't pop pimples simply because they will go away and popping the leaves scars, trust me, I know from experience.

I would not even bother getting tested unless you have taken any other risks. If you know the blood was your mothers, and you washed it with hydrogen peroxide (which is also used in labs to clean up spills involving HIV), you have absolutly nothing to worry about.

On top of all that, dried blood does not pose a threat when it comes to HIV. Studies conducted in labs have shown that when blood containing amounts of HIV 100,000 times higher than found in the real world is dried, the amount HIV is reduced by 90-99% within hours. This reduces the risk in real life to essentially 0. Sorry if I worded that a little weird, if you need rephrasing, just ask.

You have no reason to worry unless you have taken other risks.

you need to be in contact with hiv tainted blood to get it in the first place.
you said thats not the case, so no way could you get it.
if you have read or been told otherwise the info is wrong.
good luck
