My 88 yr old Father in law sleeps almost all of the time and we're concerned that the end may be coming---he goes to bed around 8 and sleeps until 12-100 pm the next day--gets out of bed with help and sits in his chair and eats a little--then dozes off and on until about 6--then eats a little -falls asleep and wakes up at 8 and asks to go to bed---is this a normal part aging or are we watching the end???? thanks Steve

I would first try to determine if any of his medications or a combination of his medications are doing this. Or if he is emotionally depressed.

If neither of these are the case and he is generally in good health and happy, then who's to judge what is "too much"?

I went through the same problem with my grandfather.

The problem was solved they put him on Ritalin. This helped considerably.
I would recommend doing some research on it. a lot of people are uneducated about the drug. I would recommend giving it a try. Talk to your doctor. It also is a stimulant so it helped with his depression. A night and day difference.
good luck. Michael;)
