when is an infant old enough for a swing - our dughter is 4 weeks old and we're wondering if she is too young (she can't hold her head unsupported yet)

If your swing reclines, they can go in it right from the start. Just turn it to the lowest swing setting. Mine love the swing!

I found that our swing went a little fast for my dd until she was about 2 1/2 to 3 months old. (but maybe I was being a overly concerned mom too. ;) )
So, we'd put her in it and swing it by hand.

Yes, if it reclines (most have 2 positions--one more upright, and the other would be for younger babies) they can be put in it even if they are 5lbs. You can also use a head hugger pillow if she is still quite weak with her neck. And as far as the swing speeds, in my instruction booklet for our swing it says that if you put a blanket on baby's legs, and let it drape down so it's dragging on the floor, it'll slow the speed (I guess if the slowest speed is quite a bit too fast you could try the blanket trick with a heavier blanket). Hope this helped!

You can put a baby in an infant swing right from the beginning. DS hated the swing though so we never bought one. (We used it at my sister's and he just looked at me like I was awful!)
