Hi everyone,

So my DD turned 6th months this week! I can't believe it, she is getting so big! Anyway, her eating patterns have changed a little bit the past few days and I am wondering what is going on with her.

She loves her baby food (formula mixed with cereal and some baby food) and she eats it around 9am, 2:30pm and then 7pm the thing is she really doesn't want to drink her bottles that much. She usually has about 5-6 bottles a day with about 5oz in them each however the past few days she has only been drinking around 4 oz and about 5 bottles.

yesterday, I accidentally fed her too much. I didn't know that the day care had fed her food for lunch so when I picked her up she was extremely hungry so she ate food and ALOT of it!!!! ooops! She then a couple hours later threw up! Before bed I gave her abottle she only drank 3 oz and then immediately threw that up also. She woke up around 1am and I gave her a bottle and she drank all of it 5 oz and since she hasn't thrown up so I really think that was because I over fed her.

So, have any of your kids gone throug this stage where they really weren't interested in their bottles anymore??? Could she be teething? She is drowling but that has been going on forever. I looked at her gums I don't see anything and they don't look swollen????

Just wondering
Thanks!

I was wondering as you wrote this if she was teething. Mine hasn't gotten to that age yet, heck he's not even getting FOOD yet, but she's definitely in the right age range. I don't know how big she is, but 20oz of formula (4oz times 5 bottles) in a day along with food I'd imagine would be enough. If you're real worried I'd call her doc, but maybe wait a day or two and see if it keeps up. I wouldn't be surprised if she's teething.

My son has gone through this before. In the past, it happened about a week before he was getting sick (a cold). But I think I recall him also going through stages where he just didn't eat as much. Then there are days when he is a pig. I am sure your little one is fine.

Hi everyone,

Thank you for your replies. Here is a little update since last night. This afternoon she had 2 loose bowel movements! She just had an ear infection last week and we finished the antibiotic yesterday so, this is kinda strange if she caught another bug while on the antibiotic. However, it could be viral. I hope that she doesn't get sick AGAIN! She is happy as can be and she seems to be eating well, so hopefully this is just something weird.

Thanks again!

It could actually be FROM the antibiotic. They tend to make kids not feel like themselves and I've read that kids can get diarrhea and diaper rash from them too.

Hi,

Yes I agree that it could be from the antibiotic however, I think it is weird that this started the day after we stopped the antibiotic. Anyway, hopefully she is feeling 100% soon. Thanks for your reply!

My son is teething and he will go through stages where he doesn't want his bottles. I have read that the sucking motion can actually hurt their tender gums. He also goes through stages where he only wants a bottle and very little food. He's a long teether. :( Loose bowels can also be from teething.

my little one has been known to have some pretty fierce diarrhea while teething. something about swallowing so much excess drool and such.... can't remember all the technical terms.....

just a word of warning.... be extra attentive to her diapers though, because if she is having teething related diarrhea, that can cause some serious diaper rash (lots of acid in the stool or something). my little one had actual chemical-like burns on her bottom from ONE diarrhea diaper that she couldn't have been in for more than five minutes! literally, we'd changed her diaper, went out to wave bye to her daddy as he was leaving for work, while waving, she pooped, we closed the garage door, walked inside, she started crying and pulling at her diaper, i went to change her..... it was horrible!

so while she has loose stools, make sure to use lots of vaseline or diaper creme to keep that from happening to your little one! and if she seems uncomfortable or just not like herself and is gnawing on everything in sight, and is drowning everything with drool, you can give her some ibuprofen to help ease the inflammation and pain of teething. :)

Hi

well i finally took elliana to the doctor last night b/c she was extremely fussy and i couldn't get her to calm down. So it turns out that her ear infection didn't get better from the antibiotic and she now has an ear infection in both ears. Since she was on 2 different antibiotics, amoxicillin and then augmentin and they both failed they gave her shot in her bum of rocephin. I must say she is so much better this morning. She is to get 2 more shots, one today and tomorrow of the medication. Hopefully this will work. THe poor thing has a 4 ear infections since the beginning of september. I guess I am going to have to start finding an ENT for tubes. :( I just feel so bad for her. I just want her to feel better.
