A question for folks doing VRTs:

Which do you find easier:
1)the exercise where you hold a business card, focus on a letter, and turn your head
OR
2)the exercise where you hold a business card, focus on a letter, and move it the left when you turn your head to the right and the same to the other sides?

I believe that the first one is supposed to be easier, the second one is usually a progression. For me I can do the second one very easily (it ups my symptoms so I continue to do it, but I can keep the letter in focus well), but I still, after ALL this time, have difficulty with keeping the letter steady for the first exercise.

I was wondering what others have experienced with this.
Thanks guys! I'm plugging away to get to 100%...

Hey Joni...

The 2nd is harder...that said, when I am having a bad day...the first one can still cause symptoms...the letter will move.

Not as much anymore...but still does at times.

Thanks Charlotte! I just don't quite get why this exercise is STILL so hard for me after all this time. It makes me wonder if I have more of a bilateral problem. At the caloric testing way back I had a minimal response in the left ear and the audiologist commented on it. The right side had no response though and that's all that was reported. I mean, 20 months of looking at a letter while turning my head- c'mon!

Any speed making it worse? Better?

I still struggle with keeping it stable no matter how slow I go. Slow is easier though. When I turn to the right the letter moves to the left. When I turn to the left the letter moves to the right.

I've gotten better at it, but I think a lot of that is me learning how to control the eye movements (I actually move my eyes in the correct direction- so when I turn my head to the left I have to move my eyes to the right to try to keep it stable). Its totally purposeful rather than automatic. I don't think the VOR is working well yet. I don't know if its coming back at all.

Overall I'm feeling great. I went down to DC this weekend to visit friends and had a great time. I felt so good. Stayed at 95% other than part of the ride home.

At the same time I see these glaring problems and I want to make sure I'm doing everything I can to get to 100% and stay there without blips. I know you understand that :)
