Hi All,
My name is Liz and I am 23. I have been prescribed Yasmin by my doctor but I have read some terrible side effects online about this birth control. I am looking to hear from people on Yasmin. I would love to hear your opinions on it. Specifically I would love to hear from people who have had good luck with it. I feel like I am constantly reading about people who have become depressed on it or have had terrible emotional swings while using it...which just totally makes me not even want to try going on it. Has anyone had a good experience with it? I've talked to my doctor and he said it is one of the most common prescribed brand of birth control and that the symptoms that I'm reading about could happen with any brand of birth control, not just Yasmin. He said that he doesn't have girls coming back to him asking to be switched. It's always hard on the internet because usually people writing in or looking for information are those that are having problems with their medication and not because they are satisfied. Please anyone who has had experience with Yasmin let me know what you think!! Thanks so much,
Liz

Hi Liz,
My 17 year old daughter is on Yasmin and has nothing bad to say about it at all. She was on Microgynon when she first started taking the pill and she was always crying and moody and put lots of weight on with that pill, she went back to the doctors and he swapped her over to Yasmin but he didn't think that the Microgynon was causing her weepiness but we both noticed the improvement only a few weeks after starting on the new pill and she even shedthe extra weight she had put on and hasn't cried or been upset for no reason since taking it

Claire,
Thanks so much for your post.
How long has your daughter been on the Yasmin for? I've also heard that the common side effect with most birth control of weight gain normally doesn't happen with Yasmin because it has a diuretic quality to it which is nice!

Thanks again,
Liz

I was on Yasmin for over a year and loved it. Not only was it the only bc pill that didn't make me an emotional wreck & put on weight, but it also cleared my complexion up (to which I still am not having a problem with 2 years later). I recommend Yasmin to all my friends and anyone else who asks because it did wonders for me. :)

My daughter has been on it for about 4 months now and I seem to think her complexion is really nice as well since being on it, although at the start I remember her saying her period was quite heavy to usual although they must have settled down as she hasn't mentioned it anymore

I have been taking yasmin for 3 months now. I read alot of nasty things about it and was waiting for all the side effects to start the day I took my first pill. I waited and waited and nothing! It has been good so far no real side effects. I have a lighter period as well. I guess the only thing that I can really think of is that I get funny cramps sometime but no biggie. Im taking it to clear my skin up and that part is not working for me yet. My skin has stayed the same :( But I will countinue taking it for awhile longer to see if it will change. Good luck!

I was on Ortho Tri-Cyclen for 10 years before switching over to Yasmin last September due to breakthrough bleeding. Yasmin has done a great job in clearing up my acne and I finally feel like I have "adult" skin (meaning I can use products that I previously hadn't been able to because of breakouts). It varies from person to person as far as their success with a particular hormone combination. I am currently finishing up my last pack of Yasmin because since being on it I've had terrible anxiety attacks that occur 2-3 times a week. As far as losing weight is concerned I did drop a pound or two shortly after I started but that could have just been water weight.

Good luck to you on your quest for birth control.
Kelly

hi all,

i was on yasmin for the last two years, i just went off it a few days ago. before yasmin i was on ortho try-cyclin lo and hated it. it caused me to be an emotional wreck and made me gain weight. i didn't have any of those problems on yasmin. no weight gain, no mood swings, no acne, etc. so overall i was very happy with yasmin.

the only thing that did happen was after about 10-12 months on yasmin my vagina got very tender and would get sore easily due to sex. my vagina felt raw at times and made sex painful. i didn't realize until recently that the yasmin was what caused it which is why i just stopped using it. i know one other person that this happened to as well. i don't know how common it is, but just something to look out for.

I've been on Yasmin for almost 5 months, and it's been great. Absolutely no side effects, and it regulated my very irregular period. I also got online and researched a bit at the beginning, and you can get a bit put off by all the horror stories you read, but everyone's body is different, so there's really no way to tell how you'll react. My experience has been very postive so far, so good luck!

Hello! Do you know a lot of people who gained weight while on Yasmin?? I need some advice as for this pill because I am confused after I've read a lot of bad things about this pill...

I've been on Yasmin for about 7 years! Obviously I like it since I've stayed on it for this long. I used to get very bad stomach aches during my periods and would throw up a lot and Yasmin helped with this. I also barely ever get cramps and my periods are much more manageable.

It has not affected my sex drive at all. I'd say it stayed the same. I started taking it as a teenager, so it may be a coincidence or just a change with me getting older, but my skin isn't as oily as it used to be. It used to get VERY oily to the point where I was always shiny and I couldn't do much about it. Now my skin is more normal, so that's definitely a plus.

Yasmin does not affect my weight. I did lose weight on it at first, but that was because I was taking a new dance class, worked out regularly at a gym, and cut out all snacks and ate very healthy when my health habits weren't as good before. So I didn't notice anything happening because of the pill. Some women that say they have weight gain was because their cravings increased and therefore they were eating more... so that should be controllable if it's very important to you. Sometimes Yasmin (and other pills) will increase your chest size though.

I haven't had any bad side effects. I struggle with some depression and anxiety, but I had this before my pill. It's just an ongoing thing for me that I'm working out and getting better with through religion and just changing the way I think. Nothing to do with my pill... and I never notice changes at different times of the month. It's not a hormonal thing.

A good idea is to go ahead and try it if you are interested in it, and just go off of it if after 3 months you are getting side effects. If you do, that just means it isn't the right pill for you. All pills have side effects that happen to just SOME people. It's just something you have to try and see if it works for you. I got lucky and the first pill I tried worked for me, but some people have to try more than one. Good luck!

Hi,
Thank you very much for your reply, it really helps me. Soon it will be a month I am on Yasmin. You are right- we are all different and we shouldn't give way to despair if something troubles us...
