I was just diagnosed with genital herpes. I've been having terrible vaginal burning for 10 weeks now and I can't take much more. I think I'm going to kill myself. I don't have any lesions or open sores or anything like that and never have, just this awful constant burning. I've been taking Vicodin every 4 hours for two weeks and that's not helping (also have migraines in case you're wondering why I have Vidodin in my house). I've tried the lidocain gel that the doctor gave me, nothing. I've tried every cream and lotion, Aveeno compresses, ice packs, baths, no help. I've been taking 1 gm. of Valtrex since Thursday, nothing. How long can this possibly go on? Any ideas on how I can stop this burning would be greatly appreciated!!

I've had good results with food grade hydrogen peroxide. You can buy it online and some health food stores sell it, too. What helps is I take a bath and pour a bunch in and soak for about 30 minutes. It really helped. I would swoosh around in it to make sure it got on all my genital areas, including inside. I also put it into a spray bottle with water, I've read distilled water is best, and spray it on when ever I feel tingling or any symptoms. Since this sounds like it's your primary outbreak, you will likely have to apply the H2O2 a few times a day and take baths frequently. I really think it will help. I have tried many things and I like that one the best. This virus is a huge nuisance though and you will have to be persistent, just like it is.

I too have had burning for several weeks. It is so annoying and depressing, I know. I haven't tried the foodgrade hydrogen peroxide, but it sounds like a good thing to try. Also I'm sure you've heard, diet can be important too. Foods high in Lysine and low in Arginine can help such as yogurts, cheeses, milk are some to name a few. Limit those high in Arginine. Any type of nuts are a culprit. Also, you should limit caffeine and chocolate as well. Good luck. Let me know how the hydrogen peroxide works if you try it?

You can also try a lysine supplement, they are available at any drugstore. Maybe you should also try some echinecea to help your immune system out. Did you talk to your doctor about increasing the dosage of your Valtrex? I've also heard that Zinc is helpful as well. Also, when you urinate I've heard it's less painful if you do it in the bath and that you should drinks lots of water to dilute the urine so that it doesn't sting as much. I hope you feel better soon.

Pure aloe vera gel is supposed to help as well. You can only put in on the outside and not the inside.

I've been taking Tagamet, a heartburn medicine, that's sold OTC and it's just as effective as acyclovir, which is only gotten as a prescription. My OBs are very persistent, so I basically have had to take it everyday for the past about 8 days straight and counting. Take one tablet, 200 mg, 3x/day and then 2 tablets at bedtime. I still get a tiny sore here and there, but I also slack off with the tablets sometimes, but then start back up again once I feel symptoms starting again. It's an up and down cycle, and the virus never seems to want to give up. I plan on buying an ozone generator, but just moved to a new state and am just starting a new job, so one thing at a time. The ozone therapy I will do on myself at home everyday or at least 5x/week for weeks or months, however long it takes to stop repeated OBs. Mine have been relentless for 2 years, ever since I got infected. I like taking colloidal silver twice a day, morning and night, on an empty stomach, as well. After I took the CS for a couple weeks I went 3 weeks straight without an OB or any symptoms, and that was the longest I've gone symptom free, ever! I have also been adding liquid oxygen to my water bottle and drinking it regularly throughout the day. Because I just moved in the last couple of days, my food grade H2O2 is with the movers for awhile, darn it. I wish I could be using it consistently. I highly recommend these things. I didn't have any success with Lysine, but maybe I didn't take a high enough dose. I've read you need to take 1,000 mg about 3x/day during an OB. It is not a good idea to take it for extended periods of time though, I've read. I also take olive leaf extract, probiotic, Kyolic garlic, fish oil, multi-vitamin, B complex, echinecea (just started this). I've read vitamin C and coconut oil are good too. I plan on getting them soon. Hope all this is helpful for you new sufferers out there. The only way to know if it helps you is to try it for yourself.

when I first was diagnosed I went for a good year without relief...ugh! It was terrible. Then from bad to worse with other virus infections...head colds, ear infections, etc...Well my dr then put me on an antibiodic for the ear infection which then caused a yeast infection. Oh my gosh! I never thought i would ever get over the hump. I never had been more ill in my life, however thinking back I was a full time studen and employee trying to pay my bills and make my way. Life can become stressful at times.
So, with all that said, I had my first ear infection and first yeast infection. I had to go get the OTC yeast infection cream (can't remember the name and I do not think the brand matters). Anyway, it was the kind that comes with the wand and you squeese the stuff inside of you. I had so much relief not just from the yeast infection, but it somehow gave my herpes a break too. I do not know if this is just a coincidence, but it was the start of a new begining for me. I was able to come off of my meds after awhile and learn to listen to my body and only take it as needed. Not continually like I previously had.
Maybe there is something to this and maybe there is someone else out there than can confirm. Hey, I think it would be worth a try. It would be a cheap remedy. Let me know if it works for you. Hang in there. I know this is a tough time, but stay strong and try to keep your stress level to a min. I know, easier said than done when your stress is high from your uncomfortable situation.

I've had the same burning problems with no lesions. I recently researched some homeopathic remedies to help with this problem. Thankfully, I have found some relief with the homeopathic remedy of Sepia. You can get it from a health food store and it's inexpensive. You just disolve 4 small chalky pellets under your tongue three times a day. It tastes like nothing. I found that it really helps with my problem. Hope this helps.
