My daughter just turned six months last week and was on a pretty great sleeping schedule at night. Veggies at 6pm, bath at 7pm, bottle immediately following and would sleep until around midnight, eat again and then sleep until the morning. Well, since last week, she is now waking up almost hourly fussing - sometimes just giving her the binky works, but other times she is a little gassy or cries so much I end up giving her a bottle. She got her first two teeth at four months and nothing since, but I realize she is teething because she chews on everything! Last night I tried giving her some Tylenol before bed because I wondered if it was her teeth bothering her and causing her to wake up. Seven times up later throughout the night, I'm assuming it didn't help.
Any thoughts on this or advice???
Thanks! ...I'm VERY tired!

"Night awakening" is something I am also researching. it might be a time of separation anxiety.

I think most sleep issues at this age are due to teething. One thing you might want to try is Motrin instead of the Tylenol. Tylenol is only a pain reliever and fever reducer lasting 4-6 hours where as Motrin is those plus a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory lasting 6-8 hours. With teething you definately have inflammation so I think using Motrin might make a big difference for her AND you.
Hope you have a better night:angel:

My son is almost 9 months. He's getting his top four teeth and he's had some tough nights too. I wrote about a week or so ago and "meechieny" mentioned that when babies are teething that it can hurt worse when they are laying down because of the position and blood flow. Since then I've been giving him motrin to help with the inflammation and he's been much happier, especially at night. He's actually been waking in the middle of the night when it wears off and will fall back asleep after I give him more and it starts to kick in. You might want to try the motrin instead of tylenol and hopfully you both will get some sleep.

I am currently in the same situation, except my ds is just over 5 months old. He used to wake once or twice during the night, but lately he's been waking every couple hours.... It's driving me insane. I am thinking that he's probably getting in his top teeth as well (he got his bottom 2 at about 3 and a half months...). I just wanted to let you know you're not alone! Hang in there.... :D

Thanks so much for the replies - it helps to at least know SOMEONE else is not sleeping!! :)
I bought Motrin today and am considering switching her to that instead. My only concern is - I think tylenol or motrin is ok to give when they are obviously uncomfortable with the teething; however, some people have told me "don't give it to her a lot - especially not even once every day or she will become dependent on it" --- I am struggling with which is correct.

Motrin is just ibuprofen, I've never heard that they will become dependent on it. I've actually been giving it to Aden every 6 hours (unless he obviously doesn't need it) and he's fine on those few ocassions when his visibly swollen gums aren't bothering him. :) It used to be hard enough for me to give him Tylenol but once I saw the differnence in him after he got the Motrin I won't go back to tylenol for teething again.

Like Tiff24 said, Motrin is just Ibuprofen and will not cause any kind of dependency. While we are on the subject of kid's medicine.....I wanted to add something. I don't know if you guys have ever encountered a very high fever in your kids(103-104). If you haven't you will at some point. It can be pretty scary. One thing that is good to know is that Tylenol is processed through your body through your liver. Motrin works through your system through your kidneys....so if you ever get in a situation that you can't get your child's fever down with one after 1-2 hours, it is safe to try the other.
