I have a question....... After a few toe operatios and my foot not being used for around a year i have now developed some swelling and pain. my doctor sent me directly for a CT scan, and the results were OSTEOPOROSIS in my foot. Is it possible to have it only in my foot?? By the way i am 34!! please help me

My mom is 78 yrs. old and has osteoporosis in her hand (t-score is -2.8), but not in her spine or hip (I don't know about her foot), so it is possible to have osteoporosis in one of the extremities (hand or foot) but not the rest of the body.
Maybe you should have a Dexa scan even though you are young, to make sure you don't have osteoporosis or osteopenia in the hip or spine if you have risk factors like family history, dieting, steroid use, sedentary lifestyle, calcium deficient diet, etc.
I'm sure someone else will respond who might know if the foot diagnosis indicates further testing is necessary in younger women.

i had ankle fusion on august 29...when he did what he thought would be routine...and put the screws in my ankle..it was like a sponge...he said,,so had to do extra screws/pins into my heel.
i too wonder about the osteoporosis factor..cause my other bones...tibia, heel, etc were fine, he said. plus, i have had two bdt, and they were both fine....on my spine and my hip.
so i guess you can get it in any bone, if it's been damaged. i broke my ankle when i was 20yo.(56now)...had it xrayed many times up til the surgery in august...
