My DS is 14 weeks now and for about the past week he is eating like he's never been fed before. He is also draining both breasts within minutes. Seriously, I will put him on the first breast and he'll polish it off in like 2 minutes and he still seems hungry so I put him on the other and again finishes it off in another couple of minutes!!! I am really worried that maybe I am not producing enough milk anymore. He seems to eat every 1.5 hrs or 2 hrs at the most and he finished so quickly I am afraid my body is shutting down it's milk machine. Is is normal for them to start to get really fast at breastfeeding as they get older? Anyone else have a little one that can polish of 2 boobs in record time???
My other concern is he only poops once a day now and infact the other day he didn't have a poop at all. Is this normal?

Maybe he's hit a growth spurt? I know that when my son is really growing, he eats WAY more than usual. I can't really see your body shutting down it's milk supply at only 14 weeks--especially if you have been exclusively breastfeeding. Just make sure you pop him on whenever he seems hungry, and let him suck for as long he wants because it'll tell your body to make more milk to keep up with baby.
As far as the poop goes, I had this concern myself but as it turns out, a LOT of the breastmilk your baby drinks will be completely absorbed by his body, so he won't have much to poop out, and that's why he hasn't been going. That also makes me think that he's growing--when his body is using everything it's getting to help him grow. My doctor told me it's totally normal for a breastfed baby to not poop for a week! Formula fed babies are different, however. They'll poop much more frequently. But like I said, if your son is exclusively breastfed, you have nothing to worry about. It's very normal!

Very normal. Some babies become very efficient. Plus he is prob. having a growth spurt. My 3 month old nurses the same way. She polishes off one side in a few minutes and then lifts herself trying to get to the other side. She then does the other side in a few minutes. She cracks me up :D

Are you letting him come off on his own? Your breast is never truly empty. You are always producing milk. My concern with him nursing for only two minutes is that he may not be getting enough hind milk. Try to keep him on the first breast until he comes off his own. You will produce more as he nurses and have more letdowns to allow him to get the hindmilk. Then offer him the other breast. And yes, he probably is going through a growth spurt.

Well he is constantly coming on and latching back on again. I say it's empty because when he seems like he's done I try to express the breast(and I mean I really try!!!) and I get nothing out of it at all.

I find that my DD does that when she is nursing out of boredom. If we are at home she will want to nurse every 2 hours or less. Then she does the pull off and on thing. If we are out and about, she will nurse every 3-4 hours. Then she nurses great. Maybe find a way to hold him off for awhile so that you are only nursing him every 3 hours. Try a change of scenery and/or paci to help get through that last hour. Even if you cannot express I don't think you have a supply issue. I have trouble expressing on my own too. Plus DD sometimes only poops 1 time per day and she has also skipped a day here and there. The most she goes in one day is 2 times. She has a lot of pee diapers so I know she is getting plenty of food.
She's about 14 weeks too.

Totally normal. Your baby is experiencing GROWTH SPURT, also if you are breastfeeding now that your baby is getting to the point of less poop. I was in similar situation as you and thank God for lactation consultants, bf group support and the book "breastfeeding made simple" it answered all my questions about my concerns. The pooping part they can go up to 4 days or even 10 days w/o pooping but don't let it go that far, but I was told that it is normal for BFed babies. Also the consistency, color, etc. will be different as your baby gets older. Goodluck.

Well I think the growth spurt may be coming to an end. All yesterday and so far today he's back to his 3 hrs between feedings. And while he is still SUPER FAST at finishing, for these two days he is taking a little more time to eat. I guess because of the growth spurt he was really hungry and just a machine at the breast. Now he's a little more leasurely again! And he is back to pooping a couple times a day now.
Thanks everyone for all the reassuring words!

Ds would go through this about every 6 weeks when he was little, it was a growth spurt. He also became very good at nursing very fast, too, about 3 minutes per side, so don't worry!:)
