When do you start giving your LO a blanket and pillow at night?

When my son was almost 2, I gave him a pillow in his crib, and when he turned 2, we moved him to a big bed where he has a pillow. I've always used blankets on him at night.

I would say when they have the strength to pull up to a stand and walk. I think I did when my kids were 12-15 months.

Hi Gemma! of course I remember you! 6 1/2 months! Wow, how time flies...

It's getting cold hear in New York and my DH is insisting I put a blanket on my DS, but I know he's not ready. He'll be 9 months next week and he's such a wiggly worm all night. He's never in one place all night!!
I'm really thinking more about me! I know he'll just get all tangled up in it and wake up crying in the middle of the night.

I do put flannel PJ's on him but his little hands and head get so cold..

Any suggestions?

I've been putting a lightweight blanket on my DS since day 1. The nurses did in the hospital so I felt free to do so aswell. Now that it is also getting colder here in Ontario I have put a slightly heavier blanket on him. I find he is sleeping better since I did that the other day. Maybe now that he is warmer at night he doesn't wake up as much. Oh, btw DS is 3.5 months old now.

My son would never keep a blanket on and he's 17 months old. So I just dress him warm. Even if you put a blanket on him, his head is out and it'll still be the same temp. I'm in TX, so we're still in lightweight pjs and the AC is still running. But when it's cooler, I'll put him in a long-sleeved onsie and then a blanket sleeper. When it gets really cold, I'll even put socks on under the blanket sleeper pjs. I kinda think of the long sleeved onsie and socks as the jammies and the blanket sleeper as the blanket. Basically he wears his blanket.

hi jelly,, :D

have you thought about getting a sleep positioner? i had one with dd, i firstly bought it cause it was said to reduce sids rates, but it came in hugely handy when she was older cause her blankets never came off that bad (still with tucking them in extra tight tho lol)
the thing i bought was called safe-t-sleep and it came with a cod bed attatchment to and fitted mine perfectly (my cot was as long as i am tall lol!

just try it for a couple nights and see,, i never really follow temp recommendations, nursery should be 18*degrees and baby should have a sheet and 2 blankets, but jacob sleeps in a baby sleeping bag which are sometimes called gro bags and a couple of blankets on top, yanno,,,,thats a thought too lol round here we can get them up to 18months, jacob is a monster for kicking blankets off and he cant get out of these lol, i shoulda thought of that first,, thats much better than the sleep positioner haha

i think i still got the pregnancy brain :dizzy: lol

I just started giving my DS a light blanket to sleep with. He is 6 months. I figure he is at the age where he can push it away from his face if it gets to close. I will give him a pillow when he moves to his big boy bed.
