I have tendonitis on the top of my ankle (right where it joins the foot) and bursitis on the inside of my foot just above the heel and radiates to the back of the ankle and is moving into the outside of my foot.
I don't know what to do anymore. I have seen podiatrists and they suggested surgery for the tendonitis (cutting the sheath around the tendon and relieving the pressure) but can't guarantee any results. However, with the bursitis, they have no ideas. They said it might go away by itself. That was 3 years ago.
I am so tired of having this problem. What I wouldn't give to be able to go for a long walk. I haven't been able to do that because I can only last about 8 blocks, then the pain is so intolerable (moves all the way up my calf to my knee) that I need to sit down.
I also notice that when I sit for long periods of time that my ankle will actually start hurting as if I had been walking. Could this in some way be connected to a sciatica problem?

If you have any ideas, please help me!

I hear ya! I have been dealing with, it sounds like the same thing for 2 years!! I've got extreme pain and tendernous on the bone, on top of my ankle. It started on the inside, now has worked it's way around the whole bone on the top of my heel. It also has started running up the back of my legs and feels like big knots all the way up. I can't do anything & no one seems to be able to either for me.
So far I have done;
-many inflamatories
-4 cortisone shots
-2 pairs ortodics
-physio, ultrasound,massage,I.F.C,stretching,lase r
-casts for 3 weeks
-chiropractor
-accupunture person wouldn't even try to fix
-was off work 4 months
-now on pain meds fulltime
-had bone scans,x-rays & M.R.I's, showed nothing...
-seen about 6 specialists, including Orthepedic Surgeons.
Not one said anything about Bursitis, just achiles tendonitis. I stumpled on info about Bursitis and your info and I know that's got to be it..
I am frustrated and don't know what to do next, I am only 30 and feel like people think you're faking!!!!

Have you heard of Metatarsal Bursitis? If so, can it cause ankle swelling as well?
