Recently I had sex with my boyfriend and during intercourse, we realized I was bleeding (just prior to that I had felt pain while we were in a deep thrust position). I use nuvaring and in addition, he wears a condom. After sex, I continued to have light bleeding for a couple of days. The first day I felt pain after urination. I know this sounds like an STD, but I am wondering if it's possible the nuvaring cut me inside my vagina? I've been with this man for months now and we've always practiced safe sex.

I have no idea if that is what it is- but your post interested me because I just got NuvaRing this month and heard you can take it out for 2-3 hours and still be protected, so some ppl do that during sex - but my doctor told me it wasn't necessary and you can leave it in.
How long have you been on it? Did you noticed many side effects? I went on it because my skin goes crazy on oral bc, and my doctor thought this wouldnt affect me like those because it doesn't go through my liver....did you break out at all on it? I'm nervous - only in my first month of it so I don't know how it will treat me yet...

I have been on nuvaring for several months now (8 months). In general, I really like it-no weight gain, no acne, no unpleasant side effects. The first month I did have quite a but of breakthrough bleeding; after my body adjusted, things went well.
However, contrary to the popular literature about it, my boyfriend can feel the nuvaring during intercourse and, apparently, it can cause irritation/bleeding during sex. After posting my message, I went back to read the fine print on the package and realized, as you mentioned, I could probably remove it during sex and replace it within 3 hours and be okay.
I guess if that's the only drawback, it's still a worthwhile method for me. No hassle remembering when to take a pill and no drastic side effects.
I wish you well-hope it works for you in every way!
