hi, I am a diabetic with high blood pressure and cholesterol, and have had chest pains for about 2 years now. My dr. gave me nitro for the chest pain and said it wan anginia. well my problem is this morning about 40 min. after I got up I went to get my coffee and I just walked maybe 8 feet and I had a pain in my chest on the left side from my sternum across my left breast I thought I was going to die, it has hurt like that in times past but not as bad it did this 2 times I was clutching my chest, well I went and sat back down now I am so weak and feel so tired that I feel like I can barely set up. I know I should have told my husband but I didn't . I am still having what I call twinges in my chest but not like it was earlier this morning. I have been short of breath every since and if feels like my heart is jumping at times like it beats and then stops then beats again. I know that I should go to the er. but I do not have insurance or a car. what are the chances that I may have had a heart attack or getting ready to have one, IF i don't get feeling any better I am going to call hubby home from work to take me to er. although we really can't afford that either. please some help here

Which is more important, your life or a bill from the ER? Those 2 girls are depending on you to make the right decision.
You may have had a bad run of some type of arrhythmia, or you may have a blockage or spasm in one of your coronary arteries. It may have only been pain due to pleurisy or some other lung condition, but you need to see a doctor. Our bodies try to warn us and we must listen.
In the US, we have prisoners and illegal aliens that receive heart transplants.
Good luck to you :)

it does not feel like my lung this is right over my heart you know where you place your hand when you say the pledge of allegance. right in behind my left breast from my breast bone over behind my breast now it just feels like a lot of pressure. and my heart is still skipping beats at least that is what it feels like. what is odd though is everytime it skips I want to cough. it is a dry cough and my ankles and feet and legs are swelling pretty rough now too. They put me on micardis for bp but they also said that it is for treatment of congestive heart failure. this was 8 months ago though. I am probably gonna call hubby

You have all the symptoms of congested heart failure, dry cough due to pulmonary edema, and leg and feet edema.
The pain is likely due to a deficit of blood/oxygen to the heart muscle as the heart fails to adequately meet system's demand for oxy and blood backs up into the lungs and leaks fluids and can quickly burden the heart's right side causing peripheral edema.
You should have immediate medcial attention to prevent severe damage to the heart cells. This has been my experience. Also I had a fast heart rate (115) and there was some relief from coughing sitting up from an inclined position. After two days/nights, I went to ER and spent 4/5 days in ICU reducing fluids, tests, treatment, etc. I didn't have any heart/chest pain! One doesn't need to experience pain to warn of harm, so if the pain diminishes, damage will/can be exacerbated.

it has diminished a great deal just every now and then now it will shoot pains sometimes so bad it takes my breath . right now it is kind of like a dull ache then a little stronger pain my left side of my neck feels like it is tight with a little pain and there is a burning pain that goes down my left arm sometimes it feels like a hot poker going in my vein on that arm and i can feel the pain everytime my heart beats. hubby is 45 miles away from home so I can't get ahold of him.

The dry cough and water retention could partially be due to your medicine. I say you need to think about the children and go to the ER. If you think you are having a heart attack, the AMA and AHA recommend taking 2 aspirin and then call 911.
If you could get a prescription for fast acting nitro, you could take the nitro when the pain comes on. If the nitro helps, you know your pain is most likely heart related. I have read that nitro can sometimes relieve the symptoms of GERD.....

i too had the same symptoms as you for several days, but one morning it simply wouldnt go away. We called the emergency squad, and went to the hospital, where they discovered that my left anterior descending artery was blocked. I had to have open heart surgery because I just plain and simple waited too long. PLEASE, go to the hospital, and get it checked. Your girls depend on you. dont play games with this........rob
