i know my peditritian said feed him as much as he needs but i'm still a little worried about overfeeding. i see her monday but, if anyone can help calm my fears, pleease give me your advice!!
my son is 1 week 6 days old, 7 ibs 11 oz, 21 in long, and has gone from eating (formula) 1 ounce in the first couple days in the hosptial to 2 when we left (i was there for 3 days b/c of a c-section), 2 for the first week. now it seems like his schedule has changed a bit. he was still sucking on the bottle after feeding him 2 oz and so i gave him a 1/2 to an 1 ounce to see if that would safice, it did but now since yesterday afternoon he wants 2 1/2 to 3 every 2-3 hours. is this normal or is something wrong???

Okay....it sounds normal to me....I am not 100% sure b/c I nursed my 2 babes for awhile in the beginning. However, DS was a preemie, so I could never directly nurse him. In the hospital he was less than a full term babe, he was eating abou an ounce. Then, upon coming home he was up to almost 2, then just a week or so later he was also eating 2 1/2 -3 oz of BM. Every 3 hours. He is 4 months (2 months adj) and is now eating 5oz every 3 hours or so. I think it sounds fine. If your doc says to feed him as much as he wants, then do it. You will know if they are overeating, b/c they will spit it back up. ;) This happened a few times to me. But, if he seems hungry, try just increasing like you have, by 1/2 ounce or so. It is really surprising how quickly they get up in ounces! You are doing great, and are a great mom for making sure you are feeding your babe correctly! Good luck! He is doing great!;)

:angel: OM thanks 4 the reply. its defiantly a challenge being a first time mom, icame here for extra reassurance, what better than asking moms that have experience. thanks so much

It sounds normal to me too. My son was a preemie too (he's almost 4 months now) and in the last 3 weeks he's gone from 4oz every 4 hours to 6.5oz every 5 hours. I'm sure your little one is doing just fine. :-)

Sounds normal to me I would let him eat as much as he wants at this age..

Sounds normal to me, my DD is 18 days old and can eat up to 4oz if she choses to do so.
