Hi,
My son (26yr) was recently diagnosed with a brain tumor (oligodendurglioma)
Has anyone ever dealt with this kind of tumor?
Thanks

Hi,

I haven't as of yet but my MRI showed either a brain cyst or tumor. I am still waiting to find out which & I am very scared & very angry that the Dr.'s don't seem to be taking it seriously enough.

Annnyway, not sure if WebMD.com is as good as it used to be, but you used to be able to post questions there & get answers pretty fast. I'm going to be checking them out again myself shortly.

Good luck!

Hello mmt

I am very sorry that you are dealing with this in your family's life. It is upsetting news that sure puts a family in turmoil.

I wanted to agree wholeheatedly with flintrock about MD Anderson as a resource for your son. It is world-renowned as a cancer institute and I do believe they have a specialty clinic for brain tumors. Check out their site.

I had a very rare cancer myself. Myxoid liposarcoma in my thigh. I was fortunate to have a local radiologist suggest and then set up an appointment for me at Mass General Hospital in Boston. At the time, Mass General in Boston and MD anderson in Texas were the only institutes in the world with Sarcoma clinics. Mass General was closer to me and I went there. They were able to save my leg with cutting edge surgery and treatment.

My suggestion would be to talk to your doctors, do online research and see if you can find an institute that deals specifically with brain tumors. Treatment through a specialty clinic provides cutting edge medical advancements and the benefit of doctors who see the rare things on a daily basis. In my case. no doctor in my entire metropolitan area was familiar with the cancer I had, had never treated it. At Mass General, they were treating it everyday with patients from all over the world. I have no doubt that thier experience in sarcoma was what led to limb saving surgery and my very life.

Many, many wishes of hope for Son and family
