I had my endoscopy yesterday afternoon. I was scared to death but everyone was so sweet and nice it calmed me down a lot.
Today, one day after my endoscopy it seems like I am having problems swallowing even more than I was. I am getting small, sharp pains when I swallow mostly in my sides and back not directly in my esophagus. It is weird, hard to describe.
I had bad pains in my back and stomach last night when I tried to lay flat on my back too.
The doctor did take 3 tissue sample biopsies so I thought maybe I am hurting and its hard to swallow because of that.
He gave me 3 pictures of where he did the biopsies and I have a hiatial hernia that looks really red and swollen, very nasty looking then I have a narrowed area, actually 2 in my esophagus and I have what looks like rings in my esophagus. He said maybe these were from allergies and caused strictures, and narrowing. He didn't want to try to dialate my esophagus because he said if he would have tried since he biopsied it too that most likely my esophagus would have torn.
He's going to wait on the biopsy results and said possibly put me on some sort of steroids to see if that will help once the results come back. What kind of steroid and what what is this for? How will this help my swallowing problem?
Just wondering if anyone experienced any difficulties after their endoscopy. I did have a horrible sore throat on my left side but thats getting a bit better.
They didn't use the throat numbing spray only 3 different syringes in my iv to knock me out. I just remember getting very dizzy and the nurse asking me if I was ok, but I was too loopy then to even talk so I remember making circular motions with my fingers to indicate that I was dizzy and she kinda laughed and said, thats perfectly normal then I was out, next thing waking up in recovery.
Please post your endoscopy experiences if you want to.
Thanks

Hey! I had trouble with soreness in my throat/esophagus for about 2 days. I would say give it at least 48 hours, the endoscope can rub things and make them sore. I only had one small biopsy from my stomach and didn't have any discomfort from that. I would only get concerned if it doesn't improve or if it gets worse. Steroids help with healing and with inflammation, not sure of your exact condition but I would guess it's to help heal any inflammation or sores in your esophagus.
