View Full Version : Pedi-wraps

Yesterday, during my 19 month old son's early intervention visit, the PT brought a pair of pedi-wraps to apply to his legs for "tendon stretching". He can normally sit up unassisted for 10 minutes or so, but put his hands on the floor for stability and has to get situated before he can do so independently. These little things remind me of knee immobilizers. Ever since we have put these on him, we have seen a significant difference. His trunk control is much better, he can sit up for unlimited amounts of time independently and is able to play with toys with both hands. The difference is amazing. Has anyone else used these little items and seen this kind of change? I am wondering if this short term or if this makes a significant long term change. Thanks for any help in advance.

We also have been using the pedi wraps. We got given some after our last roundof botox in April to help stretch the hamstrings. I don't know long term what effect it would have. But I find it a great tool to avoid the w sitting...

I am amazed by these little items. The OT and vision therapist came this morning and were so impressed with his improvement just by applying the wraps. I hope that these continue to improve his trunk strength and promote more play since he is not concentrating so much on controlling his upper body.

HI - I have not heard of these before - are they like the nada chair people talked about early? My son is getting cast soon for some sort of knee immobilisers next week for him to wear at night in bed- I wonder if these are the same sort of thing? He can only sit for short periods long legged and definately only with knees bent due to tight hamstrings. He has botox in his calves and hamstrings every three months.

My son was not casted for these items. I don't think you have to be casted, they are not custom fit as far as I know. I think they come in the standard S-M-L-XL, etc. My son does not get botox, just uses these for the hamstring stretching.

The pedi wraps that I have I got from Karim's specialists in Bris. They are material wraps that do up with velcro straps. They have reinforced rods sewn in that prevent limbs from being able to bend. So if on the legs his wrap goes from the thigh to just above the ankle. It helps aid a better sitting position.
