8 weeks ago I had an "easy" bunion surgery, no screws and pins. I would say, the recovery was easy for as long as I had the bandage on (6 weeks). After 6 weeks, when the doc. took off the bandage my foot (from ankle to toes) swell again and walking is painfull. The big toe has been swollen since the surgery but the rest of the foot was ok before the bandage came off. Even walking was painless during the 5th & 6th weeks. I'm back with a support bandage but the swelling persist. I can only fit in snickers or wide width shoes. Movement of the big toe is almost normal but when my foot is flat on the floor my big toe is in the air, no contact with the floor.
Had anyone experience these problems ? How long does it take for the swelling to go down ?

I don't know how long it takes for the swelling to go down because my foot is still swollen and I had my bunionectomy on February 5th of this year. Be glad you can walk already because I could not put any weight on my foot for nine weeks. I have had steroid shots and wear compression stockings to control the swelling, but it still has not gone down completely. My toes all go up in the air too, because of the swelling on the ball of the foot. Good luck!
