Anyone here on this?

For those who don't know, DHEA is a steroid hormone manufactured by the adrenal glands, testes and ovaries.
Yesterday, my Naturopath said there is new evidence that this DHEA may help prevent or reverse osteoporosis.

He's recommended 10-12 mg per day for me.

Yes, I was told the same thing by a naturopath and the age-management doctors. I started with 50mg, but it was way too much and, coupled with the bio-identical hormones I was on at the time,I was getting some nasty symptoms (extreme dizziness, tingling of hands and feet). I was cut back to 10 mg (now 20) and am fine; unfortunately it did nothing to help my BMD (then again, nothing did:( ).

Hmmmm. Interesting. Thanks for responding!:) So...maybe I'll try it and maybe I won't. I think with the 11 wks of Fosamax, and now Strontium, Ca, Mg and Vit D, my body may have enough adjustment for the time being.

Hi Peppur: I've been taking 25 mgs for a couple of years, but I can't tell you if it's done anything. My hormone levels have only increased a little with the DHEA and low dose estrogen. My bmd has increased greatly from the original dx, but I don't know if this has anything to do with it. I'm taking Forteo, and the general concensus is that it's causing all the improvement, but who knows.

I never had any side effects from this amount (25) but I had to have my hormone levels checked before I started it.
