hi, im in law enforcement and a few days ago i had a scuffle with a guy in the street whos status i dont know, anyway he was bleeding from his head as we were on the ground. when it was all done, i noticed, although i was wearing gloves (fabric not rubber) my finger was cut, and my elbows scraped, (tho i did have long sleaves on). and my finger and elbow was right where he was bleeding on the ground (not pool fo blood but defenatly there). im honestly really scared now, to add to that, i developed a sore throat, cramps and loose stoole. i know i gotta get tested in 12 weeks but is this encounter something to worry about? thank you, god bless.

Yes, I'd say that's a pretty low risk, I mean you don't even know if he was positive. I'm not sure on the statistics here, but I'd say the odds of transmission occuring in this manner are slim to none. Of course, I'm going to tell you what I tell everyone and thats that the only way to know for sure is to get tested. I'd say you're fine, but hey, if it helps out, get tested.

good luck!

thanx, but im still paranoid. its been like 5 days and i have a sore throat that wont go away, cramps and a headache. i never have a cold or sore throat lasting more than 2-3 days. im so freakin scared now. are ARS sympotoms usually more severe than this? waiting 3 months to get tested is gonna be really hard.

Don't wait to get tested. I asked the CDC back when I thought I was infected (they have a hot line if you're interested), and according to the CDC, you are able to be tested just weeks after a potential exposure. I'd say a month tops. The tests today are highly accurate. I can't and won't give you an answer about your symptoms because that would be wrong. HIV symptoms are far to broad to diagnose you. They do not do a sufficient job of diagnosing you. The symptoms associated with ARS are the symptoms of so many other things. Getting test is the only way to know. Go get tested as soon as you can.
