luckydarlin 10-20-2007, 01:19 PM Not quite a "health" questions, but definitely a safety question for me. My daughter is 6 months and a big baby who really doesn't fit in the infant tub anymore; however, she can't sit up completely on her own yet, so the large tub is not an option. The bath seats I see seem to be for 7-8 month olds who can hold themselves up - where does that leave you in between? I tried bathing her in the sink but it definitely isn't safe since she can't hold herself up yet and am unsure what others have done regarding the bath seats.
Mom22greatkids 10-20-2007, 01:24 PM I had something called Safer Bather that you lay in the tub and put the baby on top. It worked out really well.
sem627 10-20-2007, 02:11 PM You can use the bath rings at that age. It provides support even if they can't sit up unassisted.
We used an inflatable tub at that transitional stage. It was smaller than the big tub, but didn't have that incline part that the infant tub has. I just held onto their arm the whole time.
WhiskersOnKittens 10-20-2007, 04:03 PM hi there,
I'm in the same boat with my son. I got this thing from wal-mart (not sure what it's called) that's just a piece of fabric held together by wire, and one end of it is raised, so you just lay the baby on it (with their head on the raised end obviously) in the big bath tub. It was only about $5 so a really good investment, and bath time is a lot easier than trying to squeeze him into that tiny infant tub!
Whiskers
aelliott 10-20-2007, 04:44 PM I was going to suggest the same thing as the last poster. It looks like a cheap bouncy seat, but works well!!
mcr285 10-20-2007, 06:10 PM i always just put my daughter directly in the big tub with her sister. i held onto her with one arm and bathed her with the other. i put a washcloth underneath her to keep her from slipping so much. when she was bathed, i took her out and put a diaper on her (big sister "swam" while i did this) right there in the bathroom, and then stuck her in the bouncy chair or portable swing while i bathed her sister. then i'd take them both back to their room and lotion and dress them. it worked well for us.
I used an inflatable tub also. Put it in the tub but just fill the inflatable with water not the regular tub or it will be a boat! Anyway, this was a lifesaver for me and my son loved it. It has a plug on the bottom so you can drain the water easily and it's soft so if he got wild and hit his head it didn't hurt. We used it for a long time, even after he could sit up.
kristi6190 10-24-2007, 10:39 PM i'm sorry i am sure you've already found a way to do it but i'll suggest anyways. my daughter used the infant tub umm...like twice. aha! no really thought she didnt use it for very long i'd say until she was two or two and a half months old, we bought this inexspenive($3.95ish) thing from wal-mart, it was just foam. it was the shape of the baby and i'd put a few inches of water in the tub and this thing worked great! i actually just last week stopped using it. shes 8 months old! when she could finally sit up it helped keep her little butt in one place. i really don't favor those blow up baths(where the heck do you put it???) anyways just another suggestion! good luck :)
luckydarlin 10-25-2007, 08:48 AM Thanks so much for all the replies - I'm surprised they don't market something for this age group because it can be confusing on what is safe. It's great to know what has worked for other mothers and I'm going to get something this weekend to try.
As always, I appreciate all the opinions and input!!! :)
You put the blow up one right IN the bathtub.
kristi6190 10-25-2007, 05:26 PM i understand that...i mean, do you blow up and deflate it everyday!? that could get old. i considered getting one but the foam thing i just hang it in the tub. but we all have our different opinions, thats why its good we all give advice.
Hi, no I didn't deflate it everyday, just cleaned it out with soap and water and also let it air dry by just leaning it up and backwards in the tub. Sorry I did dry it somewhat with a paper towel first. It also had a tab with a hole so you could hang it to dry if you wanted to. It was only like 5 or 6 dollars
Another reason for it was- my son was afraid when I first put him in the big tub, I guess he felt insecure so bathing him was a fight- he did not want to go in that big tub! The smaller inflatable one fixed that and then he loved his bath!
jackstersmom 10-26-2007, 10:54 AM I started laying my son in the big tub with only a little bit of water - maybe like an inch. He did fine with that.
kristi6190 10-26-2007, 10:03 PM aww is he still afraid of the big tub? what age do they get over that? i know someone whos baby is the same way. she struggles with it. my daughter love the water, acctually i just videotaped her tonight. shes so funny! she just learned to splash! they bathroom was soaked! but its worth it. ttyl:)
Hi, he's 5 now so no he's not afraid anymore. I guess around a year or so is when he got over it. When he had more control over his body and could move more we firgured out he was also afraid of the drain. He would see the water go down and freak out trying to get away and "save" his toys and himself! He thought they could all be sucked down (including himself!)
