I was ask for a CT to locate the exact placement of the stone. Some stones will not show on x-ray and some ultrasounds pick up stones that are not actually kidney stones. May be a gall stone if it is on your right side.

Hey, everyone! Thanks 2+ for posting.....This is my mom.... I told her to post because I thought you all might have some better info for her than what I can provide.

She keeps having UTIs. I told her she needs a CT scan, too. I don't know why they did the ultrasound or x-ray as the CT scan is best to detect stones.

I believe she needs to definitely pursue this & be persistant to find out what is going on. She shouldn't just not worry about it, but instead find out the reason for back to back to back UTIs!!

Please everyone respond to my mom & put your two cents in.

Thanks!!

I'm with 2+. A ct scan would be most appropriate.

I don't think you should just sit back and accept the diagnosis. If you are in pain, you need to do something about it. Obviously something's going on on you would not be having all these uti's either.

If I was in your shoes, I'd seek a second opinion. I've done it often enough. In fact, I'm on my fifth endocrinologist right now. I'm hoping this one can get it right. Sometimes it takes persistence.

I had exactly the same problem ,almost constant UTI's. I finally went to a urologist and he put me through all the tests you spoke of and also he looked inside my bladder with a scope. My last test was the CT scan and it showed a large kidney stone. He said if it comes out of the kidney I would never be able to pass it. I am scheduled this Friday for a Lithotripsy. So the moral of the story is listen to all of us and keep asking for answers. I am surprised that your urologist would not know that a CT scan would be in order to find out what is going on. Maybe try a different one. Good luck and I hope you get an answer and some relief soon.

Before you ask for the CT, look at extra studies done on Hukleberrie. Since you are mother and daughter and you are both getting stones it is either two things:

1 - You are accustomed to similair diets/food choices that are causing them.
2 - There is a problem with the kidney that MAY be herediatary.

You may need a more extensive CT (CT with contrast) or renal study (nuclear renal scan) done to diagnose an underlying issue.

I concur with your last statement. The more we use antibiotics, the less they work.
