Hi guys. Been a while, but I haven't had a computer. Have any of you had a baby that wakes up around 4:30-5:00am for the day?

My 1 yr old is finally sleeping through the night (yay!), but she gets up around 5:00 and it is really hard to get her back to sleep. In fact most days she won't go back to sleep, so I'm up for the day too. I would really like her to sleep until the sun comes up. Is that too greedy? Does anyone have any advice on how to get her to sleep maybe an hour or so more?

p.s. Putting her to bed later doesn't help.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I think I actually heard that putting babies to bed earlier helps them sleep longer. Seems odd, but some children have a more difficult time settling in for the night. Maybe have her go to bed an hour earlier and see if this works. Couldn't hurt! Good luck!

P.S. No way are you greedy. I would definitely wanting to get my sleep as well!

I have the same problem with my 11 month old. He wakes anywhere from 4:00-5:30 a.m. and has been doing it since 6 months. The good thing is that he usually takes a bottle and will go down until 7 a.m. I just wish he would stop waking for a bottle. He goes to bed each night between 7:30-8:00 p.m.

I have tried everything and I just can't break him of waking early for that bottle. I have heard some babies will do this until they are 2 years old. :dizzy:

Sorry I can't help, but I can sympathize!

I also give her the bottle at that time, but she doesn't go back to sleep anymore. She used to go back down for an hour or so but now she just wants to play. I guess she will have to eventually start sleeping later....right?

I don't know what time you put her to bed, but is it early enough? I know that sounds backwards, but sometimes they won't sleep as long if their bedtime is too late. There's a book my pediatrician recommended called Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child, I think the author is Weisbluth...anyway he's a doctor and father and this is what he talks about. This may not help you because you may already put her to bed early enough, but if not, maybe try that.

HI

I heard babies this age should be sleeping 10-12 hours a night straight. I put mine down around 7 or 8 and he does usually wake up about 6 but I do not go in there anymore. He fusses/babbles/tosses and turns and then goes back to sleep! usually sleeps until 7-8. I used to go in and do a quick diaper change silently in the dark and lay him back down cover him and pat his back until he went back to sleep. I did that for a while to let him know that it was not wake up time yet. Now I don't really have to do that anymore. ONly if he is actually crying or sounds upset but if he is just wimpering a bit or even talking to himself I just let him. He has a lovie he sleeps with a special little blanket with a bear head we started using that a few months ago to keep him company. good luck all babies are different but you have to somehow get the message through, it is not time to wake up yet!
