View Full Version : Laura Mercier makeup

I'm so mad at myself. I went into a department store a few days ago to buy some foundation, and made the mistake of stopping at the Laura Mercier counter. I ended up spending a small fortune that I didn't need to be spending on makeup, brushes, concealer, and cleansers. First, the salesgirl explained the 4 step process for the "flawless face", which consists of primer, tinted moisturizer (which I didn't want because I am so oily), foundation and setting powder, which is really just loose powder. She insisted that I still needed the tinted moisturizer for the actual 4 steps, or the other 3 wouldn't work, and she also insisted that I didn't need the oil-free foundation, but I needed the regular foundation. I have used it 3 days so far, and it's not that bad...but I feel like I've been conned into something. I read on a website today that the moisturizer is not part of the 4 steps, and it is used in place of the foundation. If it turns out to be great makeup, then I won't be so upset, but I just don't know so far. It looked really, really good when she put it on me, but I don't get the same results. Does anyone have any experience with her makeup line and are you happy with it?

Well actually I haven't used it but I've heard nothing but good things about the line. What I would do though is if you are not happy, I'd take it back and get a refund!!!!!!! Absolutely! If anything doesn't work like you want it to, at the cost of high end products, I will never keep anything I don't care for again!

Thanks for your reply. Yea, I may have to return at least the tinted moisturizer. I knew I shouldn't have gotten so out of control with what I was purchasing before I tried a few of the products. I'm hoping the more I get used to using the other products, the better it will get. I bought 2 lipsticks I'm very unhappy with overall, but I think I'll like them better in the winter, so I'll just have to eat the money on those and the brushes. I'm just going to keep using everything but the tinted moisturizer for now and chalk it up to a hard lesson learned.
I have to admit I do love her cleanser. It is a foaming three in one step cleanser and it is awesome, but there again, I let the salesgirl talk me out of getting the oil-free, which I think I need.
The funny thing is I went in to get a $25 bottle of Clinique foundation, as my daughter borrowed the one I was using, and I walked away from the Laura Mercier counter totally broke. Merry Chrismas to me, lol!

I have never tried this brand but heard good reviews. Sometimes those sales people are pushy. I know I have been roped in to buy several products. Sometimes it takes me a few days to get use to a product. If I'm not sure I end up returning it. Some makeup counters will give you free samples of foundations to try before buying.

Don't feel bad. I am in search of a foundation that is not sucked up immediately by my skin. I don't know what happened in the past year but no foundation I've tried works. No coverage. Skin looks dull and lifeless no matter what I try. I stopped at the chanel counter on day in Macy's looking for a firming cream for my neck and boy oh boy it cost me $356.00 before I left and I didn't even like the way it looked. She put more crap on my face than I care to use. All of it went in every line I have making my skin look horrible and greasy. By the time I left the store my skin was itching so I walked right back in and got a refund. Learned my lesson. Don't know what to try next. There has to be something.......

Thanks for replying everyone. I tried it again today and I just don't like it. Will they take it back even though I've used it, even the brushes? It's a good amount of stuff. I may just call before I go, to warn them I'm coming and that they are going to hate me, lol. I know they are going to try to talk me into just trying different shades, but I'm going to be strong and just tell them I don't like it and I need to return it. I'd eat the money on the brushes, but there is no use in keeping them, when they are meant to be used with the products I bought. I bought the concealer brush, eye brightening powder brush and a large flat loose powder brush. I'm so embarassed. From now on, I'm sticking with Clinique.

Would you mind telling us the name of the department store? Mostly it's for curiousity's sake, but I will tell you that most (if not all) of the department stores I've dealt with WILL refund your money. They now have strong competition from drugstores like CVC, Walgreen's, Long's, RiteAid, etc. that encourage you to buy-try-return if you don't like.

By all means return the brushes, too, if they are of no use to you. And, yes, call first to speak to the manager, get her name, and use her name when you return the products, i.e., "I spoke with Joyce this morning and she told me to bring the products to you for a refund."

I know all will go well. And please don't feel embarrassed! We've probably all done the same thing on one level or another with to-die-for cosmetics that just don't do the trick once we get home.

I didn't have a chance to call today, but will try tomorrow. I'm thinking I may just see if they will let me try the oil-free tinted moisturizer and foundation, and see if that does better. When I tried the foundation without the tinted moisturizer, the color was not as good as when I used both. I'm just scared that the tinted moisturizer will break me out and leave me oily, even if it is oil-free.
Thanks for the encouragement...I don't feel quite so stupid now. I got everything at Nordstrom. I plan on letting them know I'll try the oil-free and if I am still not happy, I am sorry but I am going to have to return most of it.

I have a few Laura Mercier products and when ever I wear the make-up, I get so many compliments.

I think she does have some good products and I've read mostly good reviews regarding the makeup, but I think I need the products in oil-free instead of regular, and the shade I have may be off a little bit. Mainly, I think my skin is just getting too oily.
