Hi all,

I had a right cheilectomy on 10/1. There was a very large bone spur and free bone fragments in the joint. The right foot is starting to feel much better. I notice a limp from all the swelling and my left foot hurts along the sole and on the top. There is some new pain in the left great toe joint (small spur). My doc tells me that the foot can stay swollen for months and he sees this often. Has anyone out there had this happen and how long did it last?

I'm a little confused about your question. Which foot is swelling? If it's the one operated on, yes, it can have some for several months. If it's the left one, it probably won't go away until you are walking properly on both feet. And the reason the left great toe joint hurts now is that you have the same condition there as the right foot. In people who get turf toe from an injury, it's usually only in that toe. In the rest of us, it's usually in both because it is caused from either running a lot or (in the case of us women) wearing pointy toed high heeled shoes. So if one toe is damaged, the other most likely is also....my right one is but am not is the mood to have it fixed. Didn't realize how much it hurt though until I had the left one fixed!

swelling lasts a very long time. usually up to a year. i think you were talking about the surgical foot. if not, i would probably see the dr. make sure you are elevating and iceing.

Hi all,

I had a cheilectomy/clean up of my left great toe this Monday. I did not want to have another six months of misery before going the surgical route. The bone spur was compressing one the the superficial nerves. This was causing a burning pain into my second and third toes. This seems to be much better after surgery.
