hey everyone, ty for your replies to my other thread. basically i really wasnt happy with what the er doctor said, and druing the evening it got worse, and went all purple, so we took him to the out of hours doctors who gave him the same diagnosis but said that he needed to imediately get given iv anitbiotics, as left untrested it can become an optic infection then travel to the brain and cause meningitis! so my little man has now been admitted to the hospital and has a canular fitted in his tiny little hand with a split and bandage on top, (so he doesnt pull it out) and is now being given antibiotics every 6 hours, its so hard to see him there with his tiny eye looking like a golfball and his arm all bandaged up. it got so swollen that even if you tried to separate both eyelids you still couldnt see his eyeball. The dr's say he will be in until at least tuesday, dh is staying with him tonight so i can (try to) get some sleep as i had none yesterday.
oh they say that it would have been caused by him rubbing his infected excema on his cheeks then rubbing his eye. so now i am going to demand that he get referred to a dermatologist!
im soooo freaking annoyed with that er doctor, he gave him the totally wrong treatment, im so glad i went with my instincts because if i didnt my little man could become seriously ill.

Oh no! I'm glad you went with your instincts too. So glad your LO doesn't have to deal with meningitis. I'll keep him in my thoughts. Hope he has a quick recovery.

I will pray for him (and your family). I know what this is like, as my DS spent 4 weeks in the NICU and was hooked up with IV's and a cannulus too. So, if you have any questions about the equipment, let me know, I am a pro. I asked in your other post about his eczema possibly being caused by formula? If you are nursing...it may be something in your diet? I am just thinking that babies usually don't get eczema really that badly unless there is another culprit. Again, I will pray for him and hope that he comes home quickly and all better! Good luck trying to get to a derma. ;)

Gemmalou,
I am so sorry to hear about your little guy. It is so hard to see your kids suffer, it just breaks your heart. I will keep him in my thoughts and prayers. Try to get some sleep...he is going to need you to be strong and well rested for him. Great job on following your instincts!
Keep us posted

Oh my, my heart goes out to you, I feel so bad for the baby, and I'm glad you went with ur instinct, I do the same thing all the time, we know more than the doctors when it comes to our child!!! I don't care how educated they are but we have that powerful maternal instinct ... I will pray for ur baby. Please let us know the progress.

hi everyone, ty for all your replies :)
jacob is alot better and was discharged thhis afternoon as the antibiotics are working well , he knocked his canular out so they deceided to try him on oral antibiotics which he will be on for the next week.,
his eye has gone down quite alot although he can still only open it halfway. the nurses and dr's were so good, they referred him to a dermatologist and got a speed note put on it and we have an appt tomorrow morning, they were able to get us in quite quick because the infection was a result of his excema and they all agreed that his excema is pretty bad.
He was also seen by the ear nose and throat guys just to make sure there was no underlying reason for his infection. (periorbital cellulitis) Everyone we spoke to said we did the right thing in coming back and although they arnt allowed to comment on the er dr the looks on their faces said it all.
the dr's think that because jakey's dad has psoriasis and hayfever allergies thats the reason jacob has excema, i thought about him maybe having an allergy to the formula milk he has so we did change it once and mentioned it to our gp but he said that if that was the case then it wouldnt have cleared up with the steriod creams (for the while they worked anyway) but this is something i will be bringing up with the derm tomorrow.
we have also started to keep a daily diary of the food he eats and ingredients and anything unusual we do, but as we have only just started it theres no obvious links as yet. but we do know that he is allergic to wet wipes.
thankyou all for your kind replies and for keeping jakey in your thoughts, and i will update later with what the derm has to say
