Smithville mom

My mom just had surgery for what she thought was a fracture in her back, when they went in to do the surgery, The doc. found that what they were seeing in the x-rays, MRI's, and CAT scans was not a bone chip - but rather an "arthritic mass" growing on her spine. My mom is only 46yrs old. The Doc. doesnt know why she would have this at her age and said there is a 15-20%chance of it returning. She is now obviously pretty scared. If any one has any useful info on this I would really appreciate it!

I don' think I have heard of the way the dr put it, I am wondering if this mass was actually a synovial cyst that turned into scar tissue or something.
There are many of us here on this board in age 20s, 30s, and 40s that have degenerative spine problems. It can be genetic or even from accidents from many years prior.
I recommend you get the specific diagnosis from the dr. so you can better educate about the problem.
